willhsv your diff will have a broken cone.

Kaaz do an oil specific to their diffs. Demon tweeks sell it.

When new they are very juddery and noisy. It took a trackday to bed mine in properly.
You set the amount of lock on the unit before fitting in the housing.
You can set the diif to100% lock ,65% lock or 35% I run 100% but that's perhaps too much for some on the road.

I'm glad I didn't do a torsen.
I am also running a Kaaz diff and haven't had any problems, mine is setup for the mid setting and seams fine for trackdays and the road. I went for the Kaaz diff as I have heard about other after market diffs clunking. Still running the Kaaz oil but I'm sure there would be another alternative oil available.

its been fine since the extra friction modifier so surely if something was broken it would be broken all the time ?

I'll keep an eye on it anyway but touch wood - all good now after 2oz of fm !

I had a huge amount of clunking and even some strange behaviour from the rear end while turning corners on a vxr8. I took the diff apart and the planet gears inside the ZF carbon clutch based LSD were sheared. I took apart a spare diff I had acquired from a friend and it had the same issue. I called a company that rebuilt them, they had two spare units which they believed to be Monaro units and they had the same issue. Replacement parts via vauxhall was only £140 if they were in fact quoting for the correct gears, but what is the point? How long will it last? I opted for a wavetrac because they don't make a quaife unit for this car and there didn't seem to be any other options readily available in the UK. I cannot express how happy I am with the wavetrac unit. It did require additional shims because the dimensions aren't 100% identical to the OE ZF unit but this isn't an issue for anyone experienced with building diffs. The friends spare diff I had was clearly driven for a long time on sheared gears, draining fluid and changing fluids obviously helped flush out metal particles but the prolonged use meant that the crown wheel and pinion gears are now also damaged beyond being useable ever again. I'd suggest using someone like James at UK V8s for rebuilding a diff, or any reputable gearbox or diff rebuilding outfit. I've since learnt that axle tramp may be a large contributor to the diff damage and I've recently worked on vxr8s with poly bushing on the diff that seem to still run their original diff with high miles and no issues. Eliminating axle tramp seems to require at least one uprated driveshaft and the G8 owners reckon an uprated control arm like the BMR unit. I suggest a wavetrac ATB any day plus poly bushes on the diff. NB: Removing driveshafts involves replacing expensive £25 single use nut so try the alternative method of removing sideshafts, but be careful not to damage the abs sensor wiring in the process of pulling a connected hub sideways. I prefer to replace the nut, it allows for greasing the hub splines to prevent the driveshaft seizing on the hub over time. Cheers, Zak
