They look like Wortec headers .. the first pipe is separate from the other 3 on the drivers side to enable fitment around the steering rack / column.

Yes seems that is intentional. Raving also mentioned the same to me today. I'm starting to panic about everything I think!

Dropped the oil. Surprised at how clean it came out. Sump could be another story though.

Removed the exhaust, make a bit of room and to eventually fix the switching issue.

Uh oh, what's this that was sitting in the left hand cat...

I've bigger issues to worry about, but hey, I split my exhaust to look at the switching valves. Guess that is why they wouldn't go quiet!

Damn right, sling it all away! I was worried it would be piston ring.

How the chuff do you get this header out :haha:

Probably need to undo steering etc ?

Although if lifting engine up/out....shoved out of the way may well be sufficient.

There's a plug on the block behind the starter that I just can't reach with the header there. Not sure where it goes, and don't want to lift the engine with it attached in case there isn't much slack.

Little progress on the engine front. All set to get it out this next week or so.

In the meantime. Drippy diff removed.

Propshaft carrier bearing getting close to the end of its useful life.

Front diff bolts wouldn't budge with anything I own. Made my patented 'Monaro rear diff front bolt removal tool'.

Sexy shifter. Unfortunately while removing sexy shifter I've made another potentially costly schoolboy error. Taking out the front shifter bolts from under the car, I tightened instead of loosened a bolt, stripping the thread in the box. Hopefully there is enough metal for a helicoil or similar. I don't have the gear for it though. frown

I agree. When I lunched our LS3 it was cheaper to just put a new crate engine in. Sell the lunched engine to someone who wants a long term re-build.

Exhaust butterflies have spent a few days in the maintenance department at work.

Sat in diesel for a few days to free them off, new flaps made, gearboxes fettled.

Shame it's going to be a looong time until I can test them properly.

Engine and box are out. Engine on the stand. Where it's likely to be for a while....

Took the head off the left bank. (Where I found the piston ring in the cat)

Why are two pistons covered in more crap, and more discoloured than the others? Heat I'm presuming?

Look what the bit of ring did to the back cylinder

Cleanliness can often be a sign of water injection, as that tends to clean things. At a glance I maybe thought you might have cleaned them

No, I haven't cleaned anything yet. That's the next job before I start taking the bottom end apart.

Maybe its something to do with the LPG, or issues with the fuel system?
