Oh yes it's absolutely infuriating, we have 4 HGVs at work on the road for up to 12 hours a day in winter and the tax is £366, I emailed our transport minister about how ridiculous the system is and I did get a reply saying the whole tax system is being reviewed but I know for a fact my tax will not be reduced.

Not to be boring, but it isn't road tax, and hasn't been since Churchill started spending the 'road fund' on other government needs.

According to wikipedia revenue from vehicle tax has been going in to the general coffers since 1937.

Churchill said:
"Entertainments may be taxed; public houses may be taxed...and the yield devoted to the general revenue. But motorists are to be privileged for all time to have the tax on motors devoted to roads? This is an outrage upon...common sense."
Sorry to be 'that guy' wink

Also, the only 'fair' way of making it reflect actual usage and such is to put all of the tax on fuel, that way those who use more, pay more, but that also isn't very popular smile

Absolutely - a 15mpg car doing 10k a year will pay a reasonable amount of VED as will a 15mpg car doing 2k a year or a 45mpg car doing 10k.

I've only ever heard him say "Oh, yes, yes, yes."
