AP brake pad replacement

Your mechanic is talking out of his arse.
Normal braking is good practice, late braking if you are on the track or spanking it. If you get surface spots, which you will, the easiest way to clear it is go up and down one junction of the motorway, trailing on the brakes from 70 gradually slowing down to 50 a few times followed by some stabbing on and off, followed by trailing. Repeat on the return, jobs done.
Alternately pour oil over the disks to keep them rust free but don't cry when you don't stop. disks will be shiney
What's your opinion on ceramic brake pads? I believe? that they wll not cause any issues due to pad transfer on AP's, something to do with the resin that bonds the compound together?........obviously I could be completely wrongNormal braking is good practice, late braking if you are on the track or spanking it. Your discs didn’t warp
Gliding on the brakes is silly. Last minute braking is stupid. Learning to brake is vital. Get on a training day at a track that teaches you to brake. Worth every penny. I bet you can’t properly emergency stop, nothing to be embarrassed about not many can.
Ah I saw them when they come off.. but do agree gliding is silly and bad a habit I formed over years of braking lightly. Gliding on the brakes is silly. Last minute braking is stupid. Learning to brake is vital. Get on a training day at a track that teaches you to brake. Worth every penny. I bet you can’t properly emergency stop, nothing to be embarrassed about not many can.
As for emergency braking, I did a defensive driving course in my 20s and was ‘lucky’ enough to prove I’d learnt something in a real world test a few years later when I had 2 retread tires let go at 100km/hr in my dads 1979, disc brake non power steering Holden kingswood. No freeway barriers back then and peak hour traffic coming towards me the other way with dad riding shotgun.
peeled a front tire clean off the rim getting control back but stopped before heading straight across the freeway into a head on.
Edit: should add I stopped in the medium strip after spinning 180degree. I was in far right lane and the sequence went blown driver rear, shortly followed by passenger rear that spun the car to the right on a 60angle. Still doing 95km/hr the force on the front passenger rim was enough to peel the tire off inboard. That kicked me the rest of the way around.
