Well, after little more than 2 months of Monaro ownership the car's thrown up its first (minor) problem.

I got a check engine warning a couple times in the past few weeks that seemed to clear itself so I thought little of it. The third time, however, it came on and stayed on so I thought I ought to get it checked out. The engine showed no obvious signs of distress - smooth running, no loss of power, no change in fuel consumption, no oil consumption etc.

The fault code was as follows: P0523 Oil Pressure Sensor High

The actual reading had flat-lined well above normal operating range according to my local garage and did not change at all whether the engine was idling or revving. The oil pressure sensor seemed to be the culprit and a quick search on this forum showed me that my car is not the only one this has happened to.

The garage contacted Vauxhall for the part and was quoted £250!!!!! That's daylight robbery. Fortunately I'd already been on the Rock Auto site to see what they went for State-side, $20-$25. I elected to source the part myself and a quick call to AAS in Newcastle was all I needed. The part arrived in the post within 48 hours for a fraction of the cost and was fitted yesterday with a 0.5 hour labour charge. The car is fine now.

Thank you AAS.thumbup

If I've learned one thing from this experience it's to never use Vauxhall for anything Monaro related laugh

This is a more than common problem for some reason?
Mine was replaced a couple of years ago and I also got one from AAS.
I really can't understand how Vauxhall can come up with a price anywhere near £250.00, it really beggars belief.
I hate to say it, but if they went out of business tomorrow I couldn't care less.
I still haven't got over the quote they gave me for a new gearbox ( £7000.00 ) when my car was just out of warranty. All these years later that same gearbox is still working fine today.......

Is this the sensor right at the back of the engine on top?

Yes, that's the one. I can't remember the size of socket you need other than something over 20mm it very easy to do and only took me a few minutes.
Make sure you clean off any dirt around sensor before you remove it.
The 5.7 VXR is the only Monaro with a different type of sensor, so you might have to google the part number for that one.

I meant to include this in my original post. The part I bought for my 2004 Monaro CV8 was:

AC Delco Oil pressure sensor ACD / GM part no. 12677836

It seems to be widely used in a range of vehicles and engines.
