The map you have on your car is good for life, just like the standard map on a 'normal' car.
You might however consider another remap if you've had or made any significant changes to engine/exhaust/intake since that initial remap to make the most of them. Minor changes, e.g. performance panel filter or cat-back only exhaust I wouldn't bother.
HTH.

[quote=leigh1050]I had my vxr8 remapped a few years ago now. Will it need to be redone or will that map last the life of the car?[/quote
As Lincsis1 said the remap will not change or degrade over time unless you change the spec of the engine. I had a Wortec map done years ago and it's still runs perfectly fine, which is just as well as it cost a bloody fortune!!!!!!
Regular maintenance with quality service items is the key for your engine now.

Thanks for the replies, I wondered if disconnecting the battery or something might affect the map.
I forgot to mention if you disconnect the battery from the car it may take a few miles for the car to settle down. There is an idle learn procedure you can carry out if you have any issues.
I have carried out the procedure a couple of times over the years, but usually after my car has been laid up over the winter I just reconnect the battery and go for a gentle drive.
However, this is the procedure to follow if you have idle problem. Hopefully it will work on a VXR8.
Note this is nothing to do with any remap you have had done.
Idle learn procedure for a Monaro.
1/ Ingnition in off position
2/ Connect battery
3/ Ignition on but do not start
4/ A/C off
5/ Start engine allow to idle
6/ A/C on
7/ Idle engine for 10 mins
8/ Turn off A/C
9/ Idle engine for 10 mins
10/ Turn off engine for 30+ secs
11/ Start engine and idle for 1 min.
Job done, grab a coffee!!!
I found this on a scabby bit of paper in my service file from years ago.....I'm pretty sure that's what was in the Holden service manual.

If disconnecting the battery does change the way it runs, it was because the map was not optimal. There are learning tables that get reset when battery is pulled.
In theory base map should match your engine, so no learning is required. However this was/is not always the case.
... also no 2 maps are the same. Get a dyno pull with AFR and you will see if its any good. If not see Carl H
