Done some reading on forum about the front bumper (and rear) and the fit being not the best, I hadn't noticed on mine until I read about it, so my question is what's the best way to get them lined up better, the rears not bad, but I reckon I could improve the front. Don't want to blindly start tearing into her if there's a secret fix.

Do you mean the less than perfect fit at the side of the bumper where it lines up ( or not ) with the front wing under the headlight. If so I think most cars are like that.
If the bumper has been taken off in the past the retaining clip may have snapped or been damaged. This allows the edge of the bumper to stick out.
To fix it you will have to remove the bumper again and check the retaining clip for damage or it might be missing altogether. If that's the case you will have to fabricate a new clip.
Mine was a right pain to sort out.

Yes you are right about the fit of the bumpers. I think the rear bumper fits fine, but the front is poor.
This is more a VXR issue, than CV8, because the body kit was almost aftermarket, being designed and made by the HSV division rather than Holden direct. My first (05) VXR was just as bad as this early one I now have.
I haven't done anything with my current one (yet), but with my first I think I used some washers to 'adjust' the fit and from what I remember got it pretty perfect.

The rear bumper is pretty good tbh, yes it's the bit under headlight where meets the wing at front, it's pretty well attached at wheel arch end, just seems to need lifting up at front a couple of mm, I thought about a couple of washers under top screws to lift it a bit, but nervous of cracking the plastic. Been looking at more on internet, she's no worse than any others that are abit 'off' I can find.

My front bumper has been off a couple of times and indeed, the fit/alignment on the drivers side is terrible.

I haven’t had it off myself to know if the clips are damaged or not but would be keen to hear of anyone else who has fixed the problem.

I had a look at the Project Monaro that AC Delco
/ Holden gave away.

The front bumper fit was hideous.

Bear in mind this was a rebuild done by AC Delco
with input from Holden Design. If they can’t fix then I doubt anyone can!

It's easy enough to take off and put back on, two people makes it easier but it's still fine for one person.

The plastic can take enough wobbling about to not crack, the paint is probably more at risk if you get a bit excited bending it about.

Few screws in each wheel arch, few along the top, and a couple on the underside of the chin towards the centre.

Unplug your fog lamps, or at least be careful when pulling the bumper off as the cables aren't that long...

When removing it you need to pull the wheel arch ends outwards (away from the car) to get them off the clips and around the arch etc.

With the bumper when its off get some rivet nuts fitted to the two holes underneath the steel crash bar because the plastic plugs fitted there do not hold and take a lot of the weight of the bumper. Once done you can fit a couple of bolts.

Aussie GTO's have these brackets for the front HSV bumper to keep it flush with the guard.

Spent a couple of hours investigating, found all clips behind bumper near wheel arch intact thankfully, barring one lower bracket to wheel arch liner at bottom, made and fitted a replacement then adjusted the steel supports up top a bit, this made it a lot better, then had a look at the two mounts behind the number plate, found one missing and the other broken so were doing nothing. Made up some temporary hooked stainless 6mm rod and bolted it up into place, improving things even more. Then losened the screws along top of bumper to allow it to adjust itself, this seemed to align things up pretty much ok, tightened em up again and that'll do. All good! Now to use her a bit wink

There was something very similar on the insides of my bumper mounted on the wing, the bumper hooked over them, all intact thankfully!!
