Hi folks,

Haven’t been on here for a while, hope everyone is well.
I have a track day booked for next week and realised that I have no towing eye (cv8).
Was wondering how people have overcome this and if anyone had any pics?
I’ve bought a couple of different towing straps and am looking to tackle this at the weekend but if someone has some previous experience it would be good to hear some thoughts.

Cheers.

I believe the best / easiest solution is to cut the bumper behind the number plate and loop the strap around the crash bar.

When you refit the plate it hides the hole.

I’ve been meaning to do this on my VXR8 as it also doesn’t have a tow eye.

This doesn’t sound like a bad idea to be fair.

mine is bolted to the front under side subframe , there are lots of bolt holes available , the towing strap has a threaded metal bar sticking out which normally screws in to the cars female threaded towing section , and a metal loop , option two is just the thread part that screws into the car , then the rest is a canvas strap which will need to be cabled tied out of the way , i will try and post a photo of it works

I’ve bought two. One is similar to the one in the link you posted and the other is longer with a cable attached between the threaded part and the strap. I’ll get the car up in the air this weekend and see what I can do.
No AP’s yet. Just have the VXR brakes with ceramic pads.......

It's funny my first thought with track day was what brakes you had scratchchin

Even with the VXR brakes, I would imagine you'll find you get one decent stop from high speed, then the second one is a bit sketchy, and after that you'll have nothing at all hehe

Be interesting to hear how you get on anyway, I haven't tracked my Monaro yet as it's still on VXR brakes

If youre lucky it'll be raining, its not so hard on thetyres/brakes then.

I have the harrops that the hsv came with, they are decent, but pads wear fast.

Paul [pah250] who used to be on here put his VXR* into the gravel at Brands, the marshalls just put a sling through one of his wheels and dragged him out!

i searched under track day monaro vxr , there is a post on hear looks like standard brakes and it was not an all out drive but appears the vxr brakes and all was ok , i would prefer no rain too , it’s the others around you getting it wrong that concerns me more than brakes , make sure your fluid is good as a lot of brake fade is bad fluid or water in the brake fluid that boils then won’t work any more and pedal goes to the floor , if it’s pads the car starts telling you before you loose too much braking , the fluid failure is more instant with less warning as i can testify too

going back to tow hooks the same set up works on the R8 too , strange neither car came with one , the monaro from memory does seem to have tie down/towing eyes in or near the rear arches , i did not want to have to modify the front of the car to get a proper screw in towing eye so for me it was the next best option

Worst case scenario, could you tow / winch a car around the A pillars?

too much risk of bodywork damage , the front subframe on both cars would work , just have to be carful of low slung bumpers being caught by the towing rope

I assume he meant roll both windows down and wrap a strap around both A pillars hehe

So, quick update.......
The VXR brakes held up really well. I don’t know what pads are in the front because they were in it when I bought it but I was genuinely surprised.
About 12 laps was the limit before coming in to cool down but we weren’t hanging around, doing 1min laps when the traffic permitted.
The car was absolutely faultless all day and I got some really nice comments about the noise and the huge flames that she was producing all day!
