Hi all, I was previously on here a few years ago when I had a red Monaro CV8. I’ve been through a few cars since and nothing does it for me like the old Monaro so I’ve now headed back in that direction and bought a 2009 SS ute from MWP. I’ve not picked it up yet but damn excited about getting it, just wondering if there are many other owners posting here?

Hi there. I still have my 2005 SSZ. It’s in storage with my 2002 VY II GTSR.

That’s awesome! No idea how many are about but there are never more than a couple for sale at any one time.
I will start a thread of ownership when I pick it up next week, planning a few interior upgrades and possibly new wheels. It’s currently on some rather OTT 20” deep dish things but MWP are swapping them for the standard 19” in black which go much better with the Atomic green.
Here it is on the 20’s....

Is that a Holden with Chevy badges or a Chevy Lumina ute imported from South Africa?

Yes - black E3 Maloo R8 here.

There are a few deranged Ute lovers on here. Most general reaction to mine is that people love it but think I am absolutely nuts for having one.

It’s an Australian import but Chevy badged from factory. (Do you know anymore on this?) One owner in Aus and one in Uk who brought it over.

Wouldn’t have come from factory with Chevy badges - Holden didn’t promote that look. However the badges were a relatively popular retrofit even on brand new cars so that is probably what happened. I think some dealers even sold Chevy bits and would fit them - that is probably what happened.

That makes sense, would explain the Holden steering wheel. Needless to say I will be looking for a Holden grill and badge set

I'd be looking for a Matiz 1.2 GL badge to go on the back, but then I'm not quite normal.

Yep the UK’s perception of that brand changed for an entire generation.

I have a Supercharged VY SS Ute.
It would be nice to find out exactly how many Utes there are in the UK..
Anyone know if this is possible?

The Dvla , have done a really bad job of registering cars properly , my 04 plate as ute was shown as a 53 plate , the bit they did get correct was it was a holden ute , my latest maloo , well they messed that up and won’t change it , you would not find it on the dvla site unless you put it all in in the correct order of how they registered it , so searching the site on “how many left “ would throw up lots of inaccuracies and therefore taken with a pinch of salt

That's a shame the system is hit and miss, I'm on the Isle of Man so it wouldn't be on the U.K system I wouldn't think. I tried to register mine as a private vehicle but they would only register it here as commercial my tax will be £538 this year a lot more expensive than you guys I think.

The Ute and the Commodore wagon are both on some sort of import rate, so they're only ~£265 a year smile The Monaro is also on the 'low' tax so is something like £330 now? Not to be smug or anything getmecoat

Because of the dvla mess , i don’t think you would ever find out how many are registered , mine does not even come up on their site , so when it’s insurance time i have to tell them exactly what it is , i heard 19 in the u.k. plus IOM , so i’m sticking with that as i know no better , yes tax in the u.k. is cheap , it’s after the march 06 cut off but it’s still 265£ or in that area as it’s commercial , and that’s with a co 2 figure , my jdm forester imports are 0 emissions which brings it down , monaro on an 04 plate 330£ or so
