Hi Stewart, hope you are OK. You could try the old trick of removing one plug lead at a time when it’s idling to hear if the engine changes tone. If it doesn’t, you know which cylinder isn’t firing correctly.

Mine had a broken valve spring which gave similar symptoms, Carl found out where the problem was by using an infra red thermometer. By pointing it at each of the headers, he could work out which one was running cooler than the rest. You can buy them from Amazon for about £20.

Don’t know if we will be over for TT yet but will definitely be over for Southern 100. Will let you know closer to the time.

Hi Paul, we hope you are doing ok and look forward to seeing you next visit, thanks for that bit of advice I can get a hold of one of these thermometers as I did use one on an old CB750K2 I was working on, they are a useful piece of kit. There are a few UK bikes over for Easter by the looks of it, hopefully I can shake this cold and get out ourselves.

That's funny I was just talking about you yesterday as someone said that mine was the only HSV on the island, Union Mills is perfect for me, is he down in Corletts yard., please send his number on to me in case I need it, I wanted to check a few things today but have landed an absolute stinker of a cold.
Hi Stewart, I have spelt your name correctly this time.
I hope when you talking about me it was all good? laugh
Is the black CV8 still kicking about over here? I think it lived someone near Alexander drive in Douglas, can't say I have seen it in a good few years. Where did the red VXR8 go to that lived near Marown TV?
I have pm'd you Jock's number.

The black CV8 was Andy's he moved back to the UK and the R8 is Iains he moved house but is still on the island and still has the R8, so to my knowledge there are three over here including yours. Thanks for passing on the number much appreciated. Dont worry about the spelling of my name I am well used to it as most people think its spelt the other way.

I find a can of wd 40 cheaper than an infrared thermometer. Spray it on each header, see which one burns it off slower.

Just to give an update on this one, thankfully it was solved by fitting new HT leads and it's running lovely again. Thanks for everyone's input and thanks Andy Jock is a good guy to know.

Glad it's a simple fix, and appreciate the thread update, closure is always nice in these threads thumbup

I totally agree it was great news it was a simple fix but nothing more annoying than finding a thread with symptoms very similar to yours to find no final closure. Thanks again everyone.

That is good news Stewart, I've been meaning to give Jock a shout to see how he was getting on but I have been busy trying to sort out my Land Cruiser. Jock is good at all sorts of car related things pretty much everything now you mention it, from fabrication, paint, running gear. Glad it was an easy enough fix..

If you still have original plug leads, they tend to split where they join the plug cap. Your test wouldn't pick this up, if this is the case.
Your welcome :-)
