Morning all,

I had a trip out in the RO on Saturday but found that my aircon was dead on turning it on. No cold air at all. Worryingly I had the whole system re-gassed last year and it was ice cold. So that leads me to think that maybe the pump has failed. If so, does anyone know how much a new pump is and if so do I need a breakers or are these available from say a Rock Auto?

Also anyone know where I can get some replacement wheel stud caps (the chrome ones)?

If you've no equipment for air con, then a specialist will be need to do some basic fault finding. i.e. pressure present, pressure drop when system started, compressor clutch engaging or not etc. Or just check the fuse for starters.

I have a mate that works in the trade so I will get him to take a look. Just odd that after having the whole thing pressure tested and re-gassed last year, it's not working. I will get it checked out

Have you checked for leaks in the system?

Chrome wheel stud caps are available on Ebay

Last year I managed to break my aircon compressor that had previously been working fine…don’t ask!!
Anyway AAS in Newcastle got me a brand new unit from rock auto, they fitted and had it re-gassed and it’s super ice cold.
I think the actual compressor was under £250.00 at the time. IMHO If your compressor is at fault don’t bother with a used or recon unit it isn’t worth the risk.
Before you go that far though make sure the relay and electric clutch are engaging first, you should hear a click when you switch it on. A faint possibility is a slack drive belt or even a leak from elsewhere in the system.

That’s good to know John, as mine’s in next week for them to have a look at the A/C, oh and a quick rack fitted hehe

Mine’s never worked, I blame the previous owner(s) for not using it, not keeping the seals lubricated and the gas leaking away. rolleyes The compressor clutches in etc, and when I had it regassed, it wouldn’t hold a vacuum. Thankfully, they didn’t charge me.

One common reason for the a/c not working is because the system has a leak.
When I bought mine in 2018, the a/c didn't work. I had it re-gassed, it passed the vacuum leak test and it worked for a week then stopped again. Turns out I had a small leak on the pipe that runs on the chassis rail on the n/s. On my car it was under the expansion tank and air filter assembly.
My local garage chopped out the offending section and put a new piece in, it has worked and held gas ever since.
IIRC, after doing much forum searching back then, this is a common place for the Monaro to develop a leak on the system. Worth a look.

Cool! Let us know how you rate it once fitted. I've got one in the dining room waiting to go on! smile

Cheers all. I will get them to have a look there. I am tended to think that the system has a leak and there is no gas to keep it cold now!

Best advice I can give is buy a can of this stuff, or the equivalent.

This will at least make the system work if the charge is low, and the leak, no matter how small, will literally glow under a black light.

Best of luck, Stuart knows a guy just around the corner who’s an air-con specialist,if you need the system re-gassed.
If you just need an air-con clutch I have a new one if you need it.
The quick rack is a good mod, it should have been like that from the factory really.

This has worked well for us when we bough the Clio 200 last year.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/234265994116?mkcid=16&a...

The compressor won't start if there is no gas so even if you can't hear it might be fine.

1 year on and still ice cold.
