I've had a search through the 2007 - 2009 VE Commodore workshop manual and found the "Ambient Air Temperature Sensor Replacement" procedure (see below). It's not the best diagram or instructions to be fair, but hope this helps.

I bought the temp sensor on eBay for £6 or so.

Auto electrician charged £25 to fit it. He did t take any trims off either . Just raised some of them and got their hands in.
