I have a App called Torque for android.
I brought a cheap blutooth obd2 reader off ebay and it works good :-)

What can you do with this software? Is it just monitoring?

I bought the Innovate WiFi OBD jobbie and downloaded Torque for Android.

Pity the god damn WiFi jobbie wont work with Android !!!!

Just bare that one in mind. Apparently I need to "root" my phone and do all sorts to enable WiFi access connectivity to the Innovate.

isnt the problem with these generic obd code readers that they only support generic fault codes across the different manufacturers and not some of the specific codes to our cars

heres the link

http://gopointtech.com/category/apple

http://itunes.apple.com/au/app/dashco

and heres a review i found from an ls1.com.au forum member sais it all really

Got my GoLink cable today. Nicely packaged and I quite like how its logic controlled to not charge your iphone till data is present so you can leave it plugged in without draining your battery as OBDII is always powered.

The Free GoLink software isn't bad with basic OBDII scanning capabilities. The MPG App isn't bad either and would be good for those without full feature trip computers, but again its quite basic and not very pretty, yet it does get the job done I suppose.

In the package came an Ad for Dash Command. Looked it up on the App store and it looked the goods. Purchased it there and then within 2min of plugging the cable in.

Dash Command is quite highly featured. Very nice looking Dash displays and the ability to log data and tailor PID selection is pretty cool for an iPhone App. It also has the ability to use the iPhones sensors to log G etc for performance logging. Overall it aint cheap @ $60 but considering what it can do and what a scanner of equivalent capability would cost, its fairly competitive.
FYI It would be awesome on an iPad.

The fact that I now have a full functioning scanner on me at all times with only a small cable to carry with me on top of my phone to me represents great flexibility and I would recommend it to owners that don't have a scanner already or are interested in logging their cars data occasionally without the need to purchase an aeroforce gauge or equivalent scanner that may not be able to do as much anyway.

Sounds easier and perhaps even easier just to buy efilive scan tool to me.
Displays 8 pids at once on the scrollable screen out of hundreds.

What benefits does the phone have? Other than a graphical display? Any functional benefits?
Can it read, decode and reset all the GM fault codes for example?

Yeah if it works, then its a nice option.
Looking at the site Mel posted up in the forums there it appears that its got quite a way to go.
Efilive scan tool is more like 3xx anyway. But I take your point. If you can get it all working nicely on your phone then nice.
Be interested to see anyone's setup working with all the code resets, decodes and extended pids etc from their phone at the next meet.

These are cheap though, and generic. So not just limited to one brand of vehicle.
And the wireless aspect can be handy.

Yes they are more of a novelty and handy tool compared to a fully enabled version of such a product. But each has their own marked, and own uses, and own price tag.

it seems to have scored a lot of awards at sema and just reading a little bit here seems to support gm codes no worries www.palmerperformance.com/support/supported_vehicles/generic_pids.php

If you want to sell this let me know. then you can get the cheaper Bluetooth for your android. The iPhone won't allow blutooth ones to work..

I had wanted WiFi because it is faster than bluetooth. \of course, I never expected it not to work on my HTC. Something to do with Ad Hoc wireless which Android doesnt support. Hence the need to wipe the phone and more or less install a new operating system, or at least to give the user better access.
Ive a fried who is supposed to be trying to figure it out.

If I dont get any joy in a few days, then I would consider selling.

TBH I had hoped it would be easy, as had also considered buying an Android tablet.

I think I'm more going to aim towards a Windows tablet. Just seems more universal.

I see this more as a gauge set like scangauge. Not a full diag tool. The good thing with innovates one is it also supports the WB02 input for monitoring. So fuel and IAT can be monitored at all times with ease.

If you haven't got a wideband yet the new Innovate MTX comes with a digital gauge for same price as the LC1, so is a no brainer. I think all the guts are inside the gauge. Its also supposed to be a big step up in accuracy etc. Though Ive not tried one yet.

I assume with their OBD device...you could link their LC-1 to it via serial and display it's contents on your iphone.

No need for a separate gauge.

Having the controller built into the gauge is good, but it makes for a big gauge again. Their XD-16 gauge was good, simply because it was very thin, and in some cases you could surface mount it without it being too nasty looking. Even if not a permanent install.

Either way, there is a wide range of new gear appearing, so it's all good.

I think these software and hardware packages along with a tablet type display are the way forward
