Basically, sizes being available, I'm looking at Yoko AD08R and Toyo T1R. The Yokos come at a pretty big premium over the Toyos.

Is it worth the difference? Are the AD08s that much better? It's mostly for road use - in fact I have a set of 16" rims with Proxes on which I intend to use for the track.

Thoughts on a postcard....

Oh, also sizes. I'm thinking of 255/35 (or 40) 18 rear, and 235/40 18 front. Also, any thoughts; it seems to be a tested combination.

Ta!

Just replaced mine , 225/35 Front 235/40 Rear
After trying to read as much as possible on hear I just got more confused .
Ended up putting exactly the same size as was on the car as never felt it handled badly . Went for Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 . A bit of a mine field , perhaps we should have a wiki page with owners recommendations re size and make .

I have Uniroyal Rainsport 3 in 225/40 on Tamy and in 255/35 on Suni all round on 18 inch Spiders.

Tamy is a Tamora and Suni a Sagaris. Used them on the track and the road. Ultimately, the AD08 Yoko will be grppier and perform best on track.

Toyo R1R - great tyre in the dry which I can recommend as well.
Because of W speed index sadly not legal on Tamora over here in Germany.
So I recently picked a set of Dunlop Sport Maxx RT with which I'm quite happy so far.

Seemsi to be a challenge getting the Toyos in 255/35 18 at the moment.

BTW My Tam came as 'standard', from new, with 225/35 front and 235/40 rear.

Anyone have the same on theirs?

I believe those were the factory supplied sizes for the Spider alloys on the T350 and the Tamora. Perhaps Sagaris too... not sure something tells me they ditched the GoodYear tyres at that point, can't remember.

Running 225/40 F and 235/40 R is do-able and makes for a slightly more comfortable ride I found. It also opens up your options on tyres quite a bit more.

Careful though.. some 225/40's are bigger than others, so best to physically measure to ensure you don't get any contact when approaching full lock!

Those are the factory sizes for the Tamora and T350 shod with 18-inch wheels.

Sag came with 255/35 all round.

Tamora with 16-inch wheels came with 225/60 all round.

My profiles percentage maybe out but the point is that the Sag came with the same size tyres all the way round, as did the Tamora with 16-inch wheels.

As above, I fitted 225/40/18 all the way round on Tamy (Tamora) and she didn't turn into an uncontrolable death trap. Indeed, she became more balanced to my untrained mits. The only sensible answer (imho) I got when I posted up about the different tyre sizes on 18-inch wheel shod Tamoras and T350s was that TVR wanted to fit 235/40/18 all round but had clearance issues at the front so downsized the front.

Interesting. I think I'll investigate the maximum size I can fit to the front workout problem.

Currently going for 235/40 as these seem to fit, certainly the later Tam. Raising the ride height might improve matters.

Interesting, thanks for clarifying. Are those shod over 9J rims or 9.5J rims? I always thought the Sag had the same overall width as a T350.. so unless they seriously messed with the offsets, sounds like I've been mistaken!

I've just fitted Michelin Sport Pilot 4s to my Sag - a month or so in and I'm liking them a lot.

Currently running Toyo front and rear, 225/35/18 and 245/18/40, need new fronts soon so interested to see where this one goes, been recommended Uniroyal Rainsport 3 as a mid range alternative, £100 as opposed to £110

At the moment, I'm looking at 235/40 18 front and 255/35 18 rear. I'm tending towards Toyo, but it seems there may be a difficulty in getting the 255/35 18 size so I may end up with the Yokos in the same size.

I'm interested in the concept of the same size front and rear, as that is what the 16" rims run, but it might be a bit of a costly mistake to go that way.

So a little more thinking and measuring before I commit.

If you're interested in the same size around, why don't you just change the fronts to 235/40 for the time being seeing as you're already running that size on the rears.

I think that replacement tyres are a complete mare. As a recent Tam owner I'm also looking to replace my tyres (I have Toyo T1Rs currently which are fine for tread but >10 years old and are beginning to crack!).

Looking to keep standard sizes (ie. 225/35 (F) and 235/40 (R)) on the basis that many people think that the narrower front tyre aids handling and I don't want to alter my suspension settings/ride height (which seem to work well) to accommodate wider/taller tyres.

I also think that if you move to 40's on the front you may loose steering feel/precision unless you also have stiffer side walls from road/track tyres (which then introduce their own issues with increased unsprung weight when keeping the TVR spiders).

Anyway options keeping the same sizes seem extremely limited (I think both Toyo R1Rs and Goodyear Eagle F2's are no longer made in those sizes) and you are left with:
Toyo T1-Sport (plus); and
Continental ContiSportContact 5
from the generally well know and respected brands - with the Conti's seeming the more highly regarded from tyre tests and (web feedback?). I'm not sure if other people have been through the same process - but I would be interested in your thoughts and experience.

The only quandary I had with the Conti's were that they had two tyre options for the rear (a 95W XL and a 91Y (non-XL)). The 95W XL would seem to match the 87W XL for the front but a load of 95 seems high compared to 87 and high for such light cars as ours?

Final thought is that you could mix n match with possibly this looking a good match in performance front to rear (with possibly better front performance versus the Conti's from this):
Michelin Pilot SS (87Y XL) on the front and Dunlop Sport Maxx RT2 (95Y XL).

Now my head hurts and I should be enjoying my car!

I've not noticed a deterioration of turn in with 225/40s up front.

Indeed, it feels nicer with the 16 inch wheels - 225/50 tyres.

I had the same problem and I found that pirelli did some p0 Nero gt's in the right sizes. They are quite grippy but a fairly hard tyre so not so good in the cold.
