Hi

I read somewhere in the forums that you can tell whether a T350 is made from vinylester if the fibreglass is laid as a weave rather than chopped, and the bonnets are very flimsy.

Can someone tell me if this looks like vinylester? The bonnet is certainly flimsy. biggrin

Bonnet on mine looks identical and is also flimsy.
Car was sold to me as a red rose and since the build sheet read (amongst other spec) 'special body' I take it as having a vinyl ester body.
So I would say yes, that's vinyl ester.

Hi Hardtailer

That's really interesting. Mine is also a factory Red Rose, but I don't have the build sheet so have no further information.
I've seen conflicting reports about whether Red Rose cars were lightweight as standard or as an option. "Special body" certainly suggests it's vinylester, nice one!

Is it possible to have a viynlester body car which isn’t a red rose? My bonne is very very flimsy and looks the same as the picture above. Is there any other way of telling if my car is a viynlester body car or even a red rose?

All the T350 bonnets look like the one in the picture and you cannot tell what resin has been used by looking at it . Vinylester is stronger and stiffer so you can use less of it so it should be lighter than a polyester bonnet . The one in the picture has a layer of cormatt which I would not thought you would find in a vinylester bonnet .
If you start grinding a vinylester panel there is a different smell but this is not a recommended method obviously .

Thanks plasticman. Yes, I'm keeping the angle grinder well away from it! I'm over at Sussex TVR next week to get it MOT'd so hopefully a lot of questions will be answered.

I’m intrigued now, sorry to hijack the thread but my bonnet looks similar to the pictured one above. Also I’ve been repairing some damage to the door recently and the same material looks to have been used there as well. Is this viynlester or just standard Fibreglass?

It is not just ordinary glass fibre as it is uni-directional mat but you cannot tell what resin has been used by looking at it .

So if you don’t have the original build sheet how do you know if your car is a viynlester bodied car?
