Hey folks, I am starting the hunt for the - to me - most beautiful of all TVRs.

I currently own a 96 993 and a 92 964 which will undergo surgery to become a fun track car.

I am a user - driver - and buy cars for the experience that they provide, not for how much money I can make out of it and will the value go up. This actually pisses me off, but whatever.

As a matter of fact, most of my cars have always had high mileage and the 2 p-cars that I have amount for a total of 286.000 miles together smile

My previous cars have been: 92 NSX (hated it), 93 RX-7 (constantly afraid it will blow up), Evo IX, S2000, Integra DC2, Civic ED7. I also have a dedicated track car, a MX5 Miata (Best car in the world).

Of course I would prefer a low mileage Sag but they seem to be pretty reliable, I guess a 50k miles example shouldn't scare me. I intend to use it, to drive the Sag as much as I can.

Could any of you direct me to a document / link as a reliable guide on what to look when searching for a Sag?

How many colors have they made?
Differences by year in terms of engines/suspension/drivetrain?
What options did they have out of factory? I read about "highly optioned car" but what the hell does that mean for a car that weights 1000kg!?

Last but not least - if you have a lead on a Sag for sale I'd appreciate the feedback. Finders fee is welcome smile

Cheers

Andre

There's nine in the classifieds.

I don't know of any spec changes during their production.

As for options. I'm not sure there were any? Heated seats and sat nav for the interior. 'Sports' manifolds and exhaust for the mechanicals. Maybe a CR gearbox? But that might have been standard.

Exterior colour and interior trim combos were infinate. I'm sure if you rocked up to the factory and said you wanted the whole car flouro pink they would have done so.

As with any TVR it is condition condition condition.

Seats changed during production, later cars had Tuscan seats. They don’t fit.

Air con was an option, it’s needed.

1/2 Leather was standard, full leather was an option.

CR box was an option, diff ratio fitted to the car will make or break the option.

Not much else to consider really other than you maybe dissapointed if you put your 1000 kilo car on the bathroom scales smile

Also, if it has had a rebuild in the past, that is preferable.

Generally agree. I would certainly wish to know why the rebuild was required when judging if it were a good thing or not.

Thasks toma. I saw the Hexam one, looks stunning although it’s not my favorite color and if I need to spend that much money I’d rather it to have a different color.

As for engine rebuild, I still don’t understand why is it preferred?

Ive just edited my post see above . The speed six did have a few issues and if a car has had a rebuild by powers performance or str8six it would be preferable to one that was standard .As a number of issues have been sorted out by these two independant tvr specialists .

Few details

Very early cars have boot release by pushing rear badge. Most will be button between number plate lights

Teddy bear ears seats (most 2005 cars) preferable to later Tuscan seats (most 2006 cars)

Not all cars have the ali boot handle

Most 2005 cars have ali indicator stalks, 2006 are black plastic (ali ones are just covers and can be retro fitted)

Air Con very desirable

TVR had sorted the engine in Sagaris. Yes a few have gone pop - but people do rag them from cold (not a good idea!!)

DAB Radio option obvious by bee sting ariel on roof

Chameleon Orange was press car colour (Youtube Top Gear & Fifth Gear) so sort after

So a 2005 car with Aircon in Chameleon Orange is the holy grail

Because the original un-built SP6's have a repuation of failing.

My 2005 Sagaris has also done 37K miles with no engine rebuild. Before it I had a 2001 Tuscan 4.0 from new, it did 25K while I owned it with no engine work at all.

I wouldn't say untrue at all, they have a reputation for a reason. However, if you have an early one you may be lucky, and the later ones are generally better.

Engines...

Yes and no. It was a bit of luck of the draw. The pre-2003/4 ones were... iffy... if that is the right word due
to a number of things like soft metal.

The point of having a rebuilt engine is that most of those... iffy items... have been resolved by the current
engine rebuilders, therefore you run less risk of an expensive bill.

It is like a game of russian rulet. If it has not gone bang already, but has less than 30k on it, then that rings potential danger.

If it has gone bang and been rebuilt by someone who knows what they are doing, then less risk.

Why not put your name on the waiting list for the new Griffith for similar money?

...because the Sag is a much cooler car, looks better and he won't have to wait two years...

OP, in your shoes I'd give Str8six a call.

Enjoy the hunt - mega cars
