Just sold my chimaera thinking about a tamora one for sale has done 40-000 miles no rebuild would i be asking for trouble. Has full service history.Rebuild mileages seem to vary so much.

What year is it? General opinion seems to be that the later ones are better.

My 2005 Tamora now has 65k miles with no issues. Hope that is not tempting fate.

"Upgraded" from a Chimaera 11 years ago and haven't regretted it yet!

My opinion is age hasn't got anything to do with the engine quality, it's all down to how it's treated when cold.
You only have to go on YouTube and watch people start them up on their driveways and drive off at 90mph straight away!!

Hi ,

Mine will be going up for sale in June once it has had a 12k service mot and the 2 rear tyres replaced.

It's got 39k on 2005 registered, had a new interior and roof about year 18mth ago.sports exhaust nitron shocks springs.

It's chameleon green paint work with new 18inch spider alloys,I would be looking for £26.500

If you are interested let me know I will give you more information,

That's certainly what happened to mine, a 2004 build 3.6 at the time in otherwise erfect health. Half time bearing failed and lunched the engine.
It is a lottery TBH, a non rebuilt engine may be fine but you really can never tell. If you buy non rebuilt ensure you have a contingency fund just in case.

I've had the Tam since new, so 15 years now (Apr 03). At 40,000 miles or so, never had a rebuild because I've always treated the engine with mechanical respect. Just had a service at X-Works - including the valve clearance check - and apparently the engine remains sound.

Interestingly though, at the Cleveleys Classic Car Show last year, where I was showing the Tam, a guy who used to work at the factory (can't remember his name) came up to me and said that I would never need an engine rebuild. I asked why, and he said that the engine had been built by a particular guy (again, I can't remember the name!), who apparently used to build engines using parts that he had often sourced himself. This sounded so like TVR that it sounds as if it could well be true!

So good engines do exist out there.

My Sept 02 plate Tam is nudging 38k miles now, there was 10k on it when I got it 10 years ago this year. Still on the original engine which is perfect & still has the original clutch too!

As some have said there are good ones and bad ones and I think it's down to who built it, what parts went in and how it's been treated. My mate has an 02 Tuscan that he bought some time back with 38k miles and is now showing nearly 60k. It has never been touched other than servicing, is whisper quiet mechanically and pulls like a train.
Then again, when I had my new T350 in 04/05 there was a guy in the TVRCC with a 53 plate T350 on his 3rd rebuild at 15k, the 2nd build didn't even last the running in period yikes Gave me the willies and prices were in freefall at the time and I sold mine (wish I hadn't). The fact that when I went to the TVR factory for it's first service, guys working there were making jokes about Speed Six engines lying around waiting for rebuild and they overfilled my engine oil so that I was blowing blue smoke out of the exhaust on way home as it was sucked into the airbox banghead which didn't help install any confidence.
So, would I buy one with a factory rebuild? No, definitely not. Would I buy one with a build by someone like Dom at Powers? Deffo' without doubt. Would I buy one with no work done, err, yes but with a contingency fund just in case.
Good luck, great cars.

I settled for a 2003 Tamora with the 4-3 upgrade after speaking to powers , as long as they service the car warranty will be covered . Life didn't start well, battery died on way home, three days later the rad started to leak . The joy's of owning a Tvr.
