Classic problem.......hot starting problems with my Tam, however it's not the starter motor (spins up nicely) or HT side (new pack, leads and plugs from Race Tech) as it fires up initially, just dies after a second or two. You don't hear the normal zzźzzz noise after you release the alarm but the rest of the start up routine seems normal.

After a while with bonnet up I'll re-alarm it for the uptenth time and off we go....

Can't help but think the lack of a zzźzzz noise is the fuel pump not working but always assumed the zzźzzz was the power steering pump!

Any ideas?

The priming (or lack of) is definitely the fuel pump, not PAS.

So the question begs, what is stopping the priming happening normally after de-alarming the car and attemping to start in the normal when the engine is hot?

Hmmm....the whizzing noise on pre start is definitely the power steering pump, the pump moves at same time as the whizz noise and come from exact same area...i.e. not the from the boot.

Having said that, getting no where finding the cause of fault (not coolant sensor, starter motor, not earth points, not HT leads/coil/plugs - hope it's not the front throat pot as can't seem to source the correct one).....

Have a partner in crime now and we are working though the possiblities by a process of elimination.....

Any suggestions welcome. We will keep the site posted on progress.

I had a similar problem after my engine was rebuilt. It kept stalling on idle and after it had
been warmed up/used for a bit.

The tappets needed to be readjusted as they were all over the place. After that it was fine.

Fuel pump relay...well known weak point. Check Tuscan parts wiki for details.
