Steering column cowl screws lock

Just had the cowl off for sorting a poorly clamped bonnet catch cable.

Now the difficult bit - when putting the last mounting screw in the cowl - it appears to jack out some weird ‘press in’ fixing mounted below the steering lock.

I’m guessing the screws are too long but what a pony idea. It doesn’t want to be tight any more so some adjustment required.
