Yeti. Just a point. Those lights are going to be very low down on the front, so the amount of light that they spill on the road is going to be minimal. Most of the stuff that you can see from your vantage point will be in shadow from undulations in the road surface.
Sure they'll light up the trees etc, but I can't see them contributing very much to night driving other than a puddle in front of the car.
Of course if you're adding lights in the bumper for aesthetic reasons, that is different.
Perhaps a Vanquish (Mk1) driver can shed some on that.

On the subject of Vantage lights (as per thread) there was a similar thread some while ago.

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

One query raised on that was whether the self levelling mechanism was operating correctly. Just to confirm the lights should "swing up" when they are switched on.
There are a number of attitude sensors front and back which determine the beam angle.
The headlamp beam IS adjustable and I know on other cars there have been instances where it has been set too low.
Might be worth getting that checked

Right, I have had a go. My biggest problem is that I don't have any measurements, so I have had to guestimate the sizes when putting the Vanquish lights on the DB9 bumper. I don't know if they will fit in reality. If you can get me the measurement of your bumper from the top to the top of the side vent and get me the measurements of the vanquish light then I can do a better job. In the meantime, this gives you an idea:

Can you delete the little grille things at the bottom and move the lights a bit further down? I think that would look miles better.

I agree with you. There isn't much space. It maybe be that the Vanq lights won't even fit without doing that. I think Yeti wanted to use those vents to cool his brakes, though.

Seems to work on a Vanquish and DB7 Vantage Peter - they'd be positioned where they were on those smile

Bob, thanks so much, great job - all I wanted to do was get an idea and I have one now.

The side vents would be blanked off and indeed on a Rapide front bumper they don't exist anyway so that's moot! They do not allow cooling air to the brakes anyway, no idea why not, because they look like they should... I will come up with a seperate small NACA duct type thing at a later date to sort that...

Oh well, I'll get this done and wait for George to slate it smile

Ah well, it does look to be the only option then. Just been perusing our lights and there is certainly no room to add any additional light within the vantage assembly

Can you not get a light made that would fit in the little grille thingy, but flush to the bumper? That would look good smile

Yeah.... I'm sure most lighting companies could CAD and tool up and manufacture a couple of new lights in their dinner break.....

Probably only cost a couple of quid each toosmile

Something like this:

But with the grill cut out to accomodate the light.

Use the internals of existing lights and just have a glass or polycarbonate lens made that fits to the form of the bumper. Won't be massively expensive, especially compared to a new bumper if he doesn't like it, as it will be reversible.

That, to my eyes, looks fantastic!!

Chaps, there are always better solutions but these lights, don't ask me why, are the reason I miss my DB7 and want a Vanquish! If I get them fitted to my DB9 it will be a) pratical b) unique and c) reasonably OEM looking smile

A triple-win!

Has anyone considered putting the longer Rapide/new DB9/Vanquish lights onto a current DB9 or Vantage?

Those of us that come from TVR will be familiar with swapping lights around and completely changing them to different styles. Apart from any difficulty with the HID self-levelling, it shouldn't be too difficult with the composite wings on our cars, or have I missed something?

Shouldn't be difficult no - would require 2 x Rapide of Virage wings I guess. I prefer the current ones anyway!

How it would look on mine, pretty nice, hate to think of the cost!

Anyone had problems with the self levelling? My passenger side is sticking, moves down but on upward travel sticks and so judders its way up but then doesn't rise as high as it should.

Just came across this:

http://www.mister-auto.co.uk/en/fog-light/hella-1n...

Might be of interest for integrating into a grill.

They probably are a bit small - but it gives me what I wanted, which was to see whether they look good or not. I think they do smile

That might make it simpler, but perhaps more expensive. A number of companies modified TVR wings to put different lights in there, so it should be possible to retain the existing wings

Very possibly. I would need the measurements to do anything accurately (see above).

Perhaps it needs to grow on me, but it looks wrong to me.
Might be better suited to a db9 kitted out with dbs bonnet and frontend.
