Or better still is JLC's pioneering use of Easium carbonitride as seen in the Extreme LAB. No grease at all smile
Surprised it took so long to nitride-coat the bearings - been using it in the medical industry for replacement joints since the late 80s. Or are they a solid ceramic/nitride piece?

Well after a little bit of coaxing she seems to be fine.

So here is a question. When servicing do you use main dealer or indy. My earlier comment about servicing was a little tongue in cheek winkLast time Cartier serviced mt Santos they sent it back having forgotten to seal it...I then went in the sea, so not good. I now use an indy as and when needed.

I never use Cartier for servicing. They charged me £185 once to put in a new battery as they said it HAD to be cleaned and resealed. Got it done at a competent high street jeweller for £30.

Best place is a good watchmaker or a Watches of Switzerland branch that has an on-site watchmaker there. Many independents also offer servicing such as Carrs in London. Even Richard the watchmaker at the the JLC boutique in London will service other makes if asked very nicely smile

In the watch world (barring some of Cartiers high-end in-house pieces) they are a lot of style over substance and you pay Cartier prices for servicing.

Lord only knows what they charge for the oil biglaugh

Hi

Not a frequent poster and not really interested in the watch thing, but as I am based in Geneva it would be nice to tag along in my V8V with a gaggle of other Astons riding through town if you decide to drive the trip. I am Vice-President of the rowing section here: http://www.nautique.ch and could invite the group to fill the Esplanade with Astons and dine either in our restaurant or in the Espace Club on the 1st floor (bit more expensive). It is a short boat/bus/taxi ride back to the President Wilson if driving isn't an option after the meal! The America's Cup has long gone but it is a bit more interesting than a "mere" restaurant..

That is a very kind offer and I am sure there will be time to stop by the club and join you and your friends there for some drinks and maybe dinner (not sure on the dinner arrangements yet). Mr Yeti is route planner and I am hoping we will arrive in Geneva around mid afternoon on the 10th April.

I will be updating this thread as I get the itinerary confirmed so hopefully we can discuss at that stage and incorporate your idea into it.

Thanks for contributing and wanting to add another special component to the trip.

Early'ish start from Beaune and a brisk lunch of no more than an hour makes this fine. I would like to try and find a way to avoid the town of Gap on the RN as I got snared in some awful traffic there last time frown

Hiya V8Woolie.

Please put me down if ok?

We have a house just north of Geneva so it would fit nicely.

Sorry reading through the links its a +1 please. If you are full up thats no prob, we will go for a spin anyway. There may be some people falling by the wayside as the date nears.

For reference we will be getting the Hull/Zebrugge crossing.

We have driven this many times and go through Germany. No tolls and the police smile more.

Someone at the D&D asked me to add them to this list and I think it was Pilgrim7777. If I have added the wrong name please let me know.

Hello,

Only second posting on PH. But would love to drive to Geneva, have driven there 3 times before and driving there again in a couple of weeks (Although not in an AM). Would defo need to have PLUS 1.

Am I right in thinking that the watch people will pay for food and accommodation. OMG sign me up ......

Would love to go on the watch tour, but don't mind if I don't go. Experience tells me that it will be cold, but don't think winter tyres will be necessary, unless others think it would be necessary or best. Have some wicked Michelin Alpin 4's, but only want to use them in real cold weather.

Whilst I'm new to PH, I'm a veteran at road trip.

Please sign me up .............

I wouldn't want the V12V's Corsas necessarily, but spoke to a guy at work who lived there for years.

Crossing the Juras will not be a problem as they are not high and Geneva itself doesn't have much altitude. He reckons similar to spring in the UK (so anything from 5deg to 15deg), but with lots of snow-capped mountains to look at. Shouldn't be any issues, standard 3-season tyres should be fine.
