What if you put a car cover on when parked under a tree? Then you wont end up with the car covered in bird st and dead leaves smile

Ask them what they plan to use and then I can tell you.
Either Autoglym Lifeshine or some Carnuba wax mix from Italy (or maybe both!)

I now have a very shiny car - Francis has spent a full day on my 9 (without a gazebo) and the result is fantastic - we had neighbours stopping by to remark on the gleam - I'd like to eat my dinner off've it but unfortunately it is now dark and I'd worry about the gravy stains, nonetheless I  suspect it's now best prepared for a winter in my street. A superb job, thanks Francis.

Thanks mark. She looks lovely now and will def be protected through the winter.

I got told I was in their space while I was just about to leave! I'm glad I left when I did too, as the m25 was turning into a car park!

Will send you the links tomorrow mate.

Chris, autoglym life shine is crap. Should be called ste shine. A carnauba wax will mahe it look nice, but unless it's a very good one, it won't last the winter if you use the car often.

VERY NICE.... You can come and wash my car anytime! ... thats the same colour as mine and i have NEVER seen mine shine like that. I paid Swissvax for a detail about 1 month back and it was amazing when i picked it up. I have since washed it once and its no longer looking as anything like it did frown Unfortunately i dont have the time to spend a day washing my car, its a quick 1hr max whilst the kids aren't screaching!

Fotgot to ask.. You dont appear to have any stone chips.. I had my paintwork sorted about 1 month back (before the detailing) but after using the car i now have lots of stone chips again! What do you/others do to keep on top of the stone chips??

The lack of stone chips is due to the protection film that the car has had since new. Bumpers, side sills, front third of bonnet, headlamp covers, rear sill under tailgate, rear arches and door mirrors.

To be fair, I think the car must have been detailed before I got it as the paint is pretty good. The Lifeshine find pretty good too, especially the gloss protection coat that you apply and leave for an hour and then buff gently ( http://www.autoglym.com/enGB/product-proddetail.as... ). Gives the glass like finish.

I'm sure there is better stuff out there but for now I wash the car in 30 minutes and dry with a microfibre and get a nice shine with the Lifeshine. The other advantage of course is if I get stained paintwork from bird poop the Lifeshine guarantee pays for a respray. There was a Jag in at Grange having this done when I picked the car up.

I'm sure the Paddy treatment would make it even more sparkly but given it will live outside during the winter (albeit with a nice cover for the really crappy weather) it is getting all the love and attention it is going to get for now. Maybe next year I'll go for the spa treatment smile

V8W - Is that newly applied? Or has the Lifeshine been on it for a while? It certainly looks good!
Isn't it the case that you have to top it up every month or so to keep the "lifetime" guarantee? I'd have thought any car that was washed and waxed monthly would look good anyway!

I'll see how mine looks when I get it back. I won't be using it that much over winter anyway and if needs be I'll get a proper detail done in the Spring...

It was applied in March by the dealer and I topped it up a couple of weeks ago. I wash my car once every couple of months if it is lucky as it lives outside on the drive. As you may have surmised, this is definitely no garage queen but it cleans up nicely.

Don't get me wrong, the life shine stuff will provide a shine, but as a form of protection, it's not the best. The fact that you have to keep "topping it up" to keep the guarantee is a bit of a con. You may as well just buy a bottle of srp and do that every few weeks or so. The dealers charge a load for it, but you can get it on eBay for £40.

If you get offered a dealer applied sealant, which will range from 4-700 quid (Broughtons charge 700 for their glass coat) spend the same money on having a detailer come and polish out the swirls and sanding marks and then apply some protection. I've seen a blue vantage s with a massive patch of sanding marks in the paint and the dealer just applied their sealant straight over it and didn't polish it out. It's not about quality, it's about getting commission and sadly, the valeted there don't have time to do anything more than wash the car and slap the sealant on.

And not taking anything away from me wollie, a car that has just been washed can be made to look shiny in a pic with the right kind of light and colour.

No argument from me Paddy. I will definitely have a full spa treatment some time next year. For now the Lifeshine is doing the job and as I said I think the car has been professionally cleaned at some prior point as there are very few swirl marks in the paint.

I'm planning to spend a bit of time on mine Saturday morning as the weather is supposed to be a bit nicer. Paddy, do you have any recommendations for an "off the shelf" wax that offers a good level of protection for the winter months without costing a small fortune?
