I love the 348. It's quintessential 80s style is fantastic.

I think they've been heading downhill since the 355 though. 360 was alright at the time but looks very dated now, 430 isn't a pretty car at all... And the 458... The less said about that the better. I think it ties in well with the rest of the hideous current Ferrari range though. I hope they go back to making pretty cars, like the 355 and 328 cool

I like the 355 but don't absolutely love it the way some do, I actually like the look of the 360, I really like the look of the 430 but I'm not such a fan of the 458. There are others that think the 458 is the best thing since sliced bread and dislike the 430 and plenty who think the 355 is the prettiest. Personally, I don't think they've ever come close in the looks stakes with their entry level car since the stunning 308/328 but it's kind of cool that there are so many divided opinions....................except on the 348, which I think pretty much everyone agrees is very far from Ferrari's best
Love the F355 in coupe and GTS form - spider looked wrong with it's pram roof on the rear deck.
360 coupe lovely and hasn't dated a day for the money; spider the first with an integrated roof under a tonneau, slightly poorly proportioned but still attactive. F430 - nailed it both on coupe and spider, purporseful rather than beautiful. God it's big though!
458... don't like the coupe at all, but the Spider is wonderful, wonderful, wonderful smile

My choice for a Ferrari I could 'afford' would be be an F355 GTS manual. In Tour de France blue with tan leather. Defines the term 'future classic'.

I know what you mean, I'm an odd one out, but there's a quirkyness(sp?!) about the 348 that makes me want one (esp the Spider), I'm sure me having my formative childhood years in the 80s helps me want a car with strakes on the sides and back...

That and I wanting one becuase no one else does?! Like the runt of the litter syndrome.

I know it wouldn't drive anywhere near as well as the 355 but I'd love a 308/328, which can be bought for very affordable money right now and I think is a real future classic......having said that, there is that well known syndrome where car buyers are affected by their age and what they lusted after in their youth - I'm 41 so Magnum has definitely influenced me (although my poster car was always a countach)

I love the 430 and think it will age much better than the 458 (I'm not sure any of the current Ferraris will be helped in the way they age by the current headlight design) but I'm not sure in 15-20 yrs time the 430 will have aged as gracefully as the 355 or 360. From the V12 line, the 456 is surely another mega buy future classic, as is the 550

Bringing it back to Astons, I think there is an interesting comparison. Ferrari have quite radical design changes car to car, at least every other car and sometimes with direct replacements too. Often the underpinnings don't change that much for 2 or 3 F cars in succession. The downside to the Aston strategy of gentle evolution of shape is that general perception for Ferraris is much more of 'an all new car' when the shape changes so much, even if chassis and engine changes are not that great. Upside for Aston is they stick to a winning design formula which they only change marginally whereas by definition, as no-one can only make beautiful cars with so many variations in design, hence modern Ferrari designs have tended to be quite hit & miss

Like with many comsumer products of every variety, from hifis to skis to watches and very definitely cars, general public equate exterior design change to an all new product even when in some instances it's identical and if the exterior doesn't change, it doesn't excite them even if it's all new underneath

Have nearly jumped a couple of times, the Chiaro blu ones I think are gorgeous and avoiding the red means there are no 'Magnum PI' gags smile

I think I could probably trade my Esprit for one directly, few bags of sand here and there... Tempted. The Lotus is a fabulous car, but when you aren't accelerating and hearing the turbo going nuts, it's a bit dull sound-wise. 80s Ferrari V8 is much more appealing to listen to... Plus i could have the targa-topped GTS.

think it depends on the car - am sure dinos will have to fall before they rise again and chris harris recently posted about how overpriced DB6s are at 150k (in teh RM auction) as a result (in his opinion) of DB4 & DB5 cars now being so expensive so people look for the next best thing - in his opinion DB4 & 5 are by far the better car - having never driven any, I have no idea !

But I'm sure the very most desirable cars, particularly those made in lesser numbers, will not suffer in the same way, as there is an ever increasing number of the super rich who only want the very best. For instance I still think there is an argument that DB4 GT & Zag are under priced, particularly when compared to their Ferrari equivalents

yes of course. There are however quite a few at the moment that IMO are fetching far more than they are worth. I suppose when the real special stuff starts to rocket the lesser models benefit - but generally they will catch a cold

Anyone think that the good 360s are starting to go up in value?
Only a few years ago they were 40s....now into 50s

Inevitable I suppose, especially with the prices of new 458s being so high. How many people assumed they'd make the jump from 360 or 430 and then saw the cost to change?

Shame as much like the F355, that's probably another chance I won't get to own a Ferrari. 456s are sure to follow eventually, currently a very fast, subtle and stylish bargain. I would deperately like one.
