Such a marvel, even by todays standards - Dad worked at BA early 80s through to early 00s and I had the chance to go aboard one in the hanger, he himself had 2 trips around the Bay of Biscay with other BA crew along with taking my mother to NYC on Valentines day in it... treat!
"April 1985, Concorde flies supersonic. This is the only picture ever taken of Concorde flying at Mach2, 1,350 mph. It was taken from a Royal Air Force Tornado, which rendezvoused with Concorde briefly to the south of Ireland. Although the Tornado could match (and even exceed) Concorde's cruising speed it could only do so for a matter of minutes due to the enormous rate of fuel consumption. After racing to catch Concorde and struggling to keep up, the Tornado broke off the rendezvous after just four minutes, while Concorde cruised serenely on to JFK!"
I love this photo even more, the BA Landor livery really was the best.
that's an amazing picture and tale behind it. A thing of utter beauty. A horizontal rocket."April 1985, Concorde flies supersonic. Hi Leerandle Rockingham was great really enjoyed it. Every. 2 years I take part in a European Road Trip raising money for Armed Forces charities. UTC sponsor the car it's as simple as that. I don't see or get any of the money they pay, it all goes to the charity which this year is SSAFA. If you want more details pm if you want too. This years Trip goes in August and will start from Horse Guards Parade.

We met an ex Concorde pilot in staying in the same chalet while skiing last year; absolutely lovely guy, incredibly humble with some fun stories too. One of his beaming friends said it was rarer to meet a Concorde pilot than an Astronaut (not sure how true that is but being a plane geek I wasn't going to question it )"April 1985, Concorde flies supersonic. Funny thing that. I learnt to fly gliders at Booker 30 years ago and one of my instructors was a young lad racking up his hours teaching and tugging. He went on to be a very good competition pilot, I instructed air-experience flights and for a while we were both on the committee. Although I knew he'd progressed in his career and joined BA but we talked about gliding not his "day job". Many, many years later, around the time of Concord's last flights, I was at my father in law's, who was ex-BA, and he handed me their newsletter saying it had an interesting article about Concord. To my amazement it featured my friend from the gliding club, who was ending in his role as a Concord captain! He'd never mentioned it, and I'd never asked. When later I did he just said "yeah, it was rather more fun than 747s." Gassing Station | Aston Martin | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
