I'm really just thinking out loud at the moment with no real intention of doing anything for 6 months or so. But...

Came across this beautiful DBS a few days ago:

I've always considered the DBS to be probably one of the most beautiful and imposing cars I've ever laid my eyes on. This one looked particularly spectacular.

This then started me thinking about the Vanquish which appear to be available from around £120K. So what's the better option in terms or the drive and also likely future residuals?

Of those two cars, I have only driven the Vanquish.

On your question of residuals, I think the DBS must be the favourite. As you will have seen, prices now reflect the individual mileages, and that is probably all that will bring values down from current levels. Having starred in some particular films, does not seem to hinder future demand either.

Had a DBS, now on a Vanq, love both - if you can, stretch to an 8 cog vanquish. An entirely different gravy.

At a guess I'd assume that the Vanquish will settle somewhere around current DBS values which means it has a little way to come (a complete guess!).

But they're such a fine looking car. Admittedly, the interior on this one isn't probably what I'd choose, but otherwise....amazing!

Trying to be sensible and not spend £160K smile

Currently completely blown away by the look of the red Vanquish. If ever there was reason to use your heart over your head then that's it. Think I've talked myself into the Vanquish!

I'm totally jumping the gun because I literally know nothing about these cars....except for how undeniably good they look!

I've been mesmerised by the red Vanquish in the ad above for the last hour.

Only experience of Aston is having owned a 4.3 V8V around 6 years ago and hating it mainly because of the slow manual box and disappointing engine (except for the sound).

Wow tough, Love that interior on the Van, but the all black DBS with lower miles just edges it for me.

The DBS just looks right but then so does the Vanquish! I'll keep an eye on pricing over the next 6 months.

I'm a big fan of the way the vanquish looks, but I couldn't get on with the standard seats. I took one for a day to play with and didn't find them supportive enough. It's a great GT, but found it much too relaxed vs my current V12V. I'd love to try a Vanq with carbon sports seats like mine, have a feeling it might feel very different.

Chris.

IMHO it's easy.

For residuals buy the DBS (wish I'd kept mine for this very reason)
For the drive buy the Vanquish and if you can stretch get the 8 speed

The DBS is a fabulous looking car but doesn't drive as good as the Vanquish you can really tell the difference in running gear due to the leaps and bounds Aston Martin have found from 2007 to 2014.

Drive both and you'll see what I mean.

Good luck in your search.

Do you see the DBS holding it's value better than the Vanquish moving forward or are they likely to settle at a similar figure?

Have to say, the Vanquish is giving me sleepless nights!

It's only my opinion, others are available!

I think early Vanquish (6 speed transmission) and late DBS prices will be very similar at some point in the next few years (currently on around £10K difference). However DBS has reached the low point(may even be rising slightly) and Vanquish has still some depreciation left to go.

One of the factors will be the number of the much better 8 speed transmission Vanquish that will be available. I think people looking for a Vanquish in 2/3/4 years will favour the 8 speed.

There will of course be a market for the 6 speed, always will be. But I would expect some "bargain" 6 speeds to be available in a few years and trade in values, if trying to off load a 6 speed bought now, knocked down by dealers.

If I was in the market for a Vanquish today I'd push, finances permitting, for an 8 speed. If finances didn't permit then I'd opt for the DBS...enjoy it immensely and wait.

That sounds like sensible advice.

I'm a minimum of 6 months away from a purchase so will see how they fare.

Apparently, there a fix. Mine is being looked at as we speak by a factory technician.

From what i've heard.... if you have a V8 vantage don't drive a V12 vantage!!!... if you have a DBS... don't drive a Vanquish!!

Sooooo being as weak as I am... I'm staying away from dealers... I love my DBS and don't want/need the temptation :-)

Tony - what did you mean by the cluck on the down shift? Was this from a particular gear? What has the eventual fix? Thanks
