Thoughts on Cygnet
Discussion
Think the Cygnet production run was approx. 400 in total.
Bez had it in his mind that Gaydon would produce 4000 a year.
I think the Cygnet will be a very smart buy if you can afford to buy mint and park them up long-term. I don't think there will be any prizes for shabby 30k-100k Cygnets with cracked/worn leather interiors etc...
I don't think we can say "its an Aston, needs to be used, not kept as a garage queen" on this model. However, a few opening miles, kept pristine and it will be a good investment.

But that's a complete anomaly because the whole point of a town car is that it gets used in a city, squeezed into spaces and picks up the odd knock and a few scratches. That's why the whole concept of a Luxury twon car that one is scared to use is so daft. If I lived in the city (heaven forbid) I would buy a cheap Smart or IQ and use it until it was scrap. However, from the perspective that the Cygnet is a relatively rare Aston and that it may be an abomination to many (but that is besides the point as many Zagatos are such but always command a premium) it falls into neither performance nor historical GT land. The problem with the Cygnet as I see it, is that if the car is used as intended, its just another about town snotter. Plenty of cheaper options on the road to choose from. So why would you?
If used as a "symbol", then wear and tear will quickly cost more than the car is ever worth. Fancy buying a new bonnet from Aston. Bang goes £2-3k I suspect. Pot-holed a Rim.....£500-1500 if they are stocked. This can become an expensive symbol. So why would you - because your not exactly saying how good a driver you are...or how fast or virile or able to provide you are - are you? Your not exactly buying into the pure driving pleasure experience?
No. The cygnet should be bought, stored, taken out occasionally and looked after. In 10 years time you can say you doubled your money (wow!), but a least you can say you preserved a dead-end Aston for the record.
Personally, I would have one. Its just with my garage space as is.....I'd rather get something a bit older and a few more combustion cylinders before they become unattainable.
Cheers.

And thanks for your efforts tomorrow
If anyone wants a mint one this looks like a good one for £32K: http://www.dorsetsportscars.co.uk/car.php?cid=997
Even if you live in London I still dont know why you would want something that small. Despite the Cygnet having very nice leather I would rather get something like a Corsa SRI: http://www.vauxhall.co.uk/vehicles/vauxhall-range/... ... When I was 18 I had a Vauxhall and the ladies loved it

Oh well, you would have been in good company - Sir Stirling Moss bought one for his wife Susie in 2011.
Actually it was a gift from Dr. Bez

Maybe they had a contra going - who knows what happens in the elevated world of high finance!

Do not think I would be risking investment money on a Cygnet. Bez had it in his mind that Gaydon would produce 4000 a year.

I would rather find another barn for this car, one of the first nine Virages (G509) manual, last of the truly handbuilt cars 1600 hours to build by proper artisans, very rare.
Not worth spending any money on now but quite a good bet for the future at £20,000 I would suggest.
