Picked it up today after the conversion, definitely a lot louder and more aggressive sounding!

Didn't get a great recording of it, but short clip here: https://youtu.be/LRfkkhoLgg0

Good grief, it's not April Fools, is it? Who at Aston decided it was OK to sign off on that ugly, featureless black lump, and what on earth is that person smoking? No, let me rephrase that: what is his boss smoking??

I'm with Flugplatz - that pic completely took the wind out of my sails for doing the upgrade.

I thought that was very clever and thought that as part of the upgrade they took the bonnet louvres out so you could see where you were going biglaugh

Joking aside, maybe someone could tweet Andy Palmer with some feedback. Maybe they won't change things for 20-30 performance upgrade packs. But he should know that the look of the lump under the bonnet does matter

Do we know if the AMR V12 will look like this under the bonnet?

Can't imagine it would look any different to the GT12 under the bonnet Adam. TBH, I'm indifferent. Yes it would be nice to replicate some of the nice shiny bits from the previous cars, but wouldn't stop me from spending the money..

GT12 was before they dropped the wings badge

No reason to think it will be reintroduced, but that doesn't mean it won't

I agree it's a great shame that it no longer actually says Aston Martin in any visible way at all on the powerplant, in the car that celebrates the end of vantage and the end of Aston's naturally aspirated V12

There is a carbon fibre engine valley brace option that was launched a couple of years ago - I guess that's available on AMR cars ? But it wouldn't have the contrast against the earlier silver manifolds that looks so great plus, do I recall reading recently on here that the wings badge no longer appears on the CF brace anyway ?

Exactly, it hasn't stopped anyone buying the GT12.

Just looked over the AM Bits site and the CF Valley Brace they are showing includes for wings...

TBH as a (very) likely buyer of the PP, I actually really like the all-black under bonnet look with this CF brace to go with the new Mg manifolds.....certainly won't stop me purchasing having heard and driven the SSIII factory car and the CF brace is in my current plans.

I agree the all black look gives me no issues. But when an engine is not always on show (eg a mid engined car with clear engine cover), seems a shame that when spending a substantial 5 figure sum to engine upgrade, the only way to keep anything on the engine that indicates it's made by Aston is to then spend an additional couple of thousand on a CF extra

Interesting to know that at least there is an option though

And FWIW one could always source an original black crackle finish valley brace with AML wing badge to replace the 'anonymous' version on later cars if desired to 're-AML-ise' the under bonnet - cost is around £300 I believe...

yep, suspect that is the option to go for.

Just wondering what you're experience was with the Performance Pack? Any regrets (apart from the deceiving underbonnet looks).
To be honest, you'd be hard pushed to know any difference unless you are EXTREMELY sensitive to it and absolutely rag the car - I think its basically only adding power above 6600rpm or so, so up to that the same and then carries on increasing up to 7000rpm.

It sounds bloody fantastic with the titanium exhaust though.

Really its a ridiculous upgrade when you look at it logically, but it was something to keep dad excited about and spending some of his money on something he can enjoy rather than just going to HMRC some day.

Does the titanium exhaust still have the switchable valves installed?

Good question. It does on the GT8, (but that was factory fit). I'd imagine it does. But that's quickly dealt with by one of Clive's £70 relay switches

Yes, massive difference on throttle between open and closed. You lose the rear cats though so a bit more noise even with it shut.
