I assume Pilot supersport is a more extreme tyre than PS4S ?
PS4S is the replacement for Pilot Supersport
thanks. Although I am a little confused. Where does Pilot Supersport 2 fit in ?

and are these separate to the sport cup 2 tyres ?

Regardless of that, I do keep reading incredible reviews on these PS4S tyres

I took the plunge and swapped the original Bridgestone tyres on my DB9 for a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4S at STS Tyre Pros. They did a great job, took great care in jacking the car up, even cleaned the wheels as well, did 2 year wheel alignment/tracking, all for under £1,000. The Michelins are far better - a more comfortable ride, quieter, grip better, and even look better. I'm really surprised at the difference.
Glad you like them Phil - my much raved about PSS will need replacing soon and if PS4S (don't forget the 'S' on the end y'all) are actually better that is great progress. Is yours on 19" as that seems a very good price for 20" (which mine has).

Hi Ken

Yes, mine are 19" - I looked around and STS Tyre Pros matched the cheapest I could find on the net (which was Black Circles) when I rang them, so worth trying. And these Michelin Pilot Sport 4S are REALLY good. You can check if they're available for your Rapide on the www.michelin.co.uk site.

There is no such tyre as a Pilot Supersport 2! The PSS has been replaced by the PS4S.

(The confusion arises because there is also a PS4 tyre in the range - note no 'S'. This is more of a hot hatch tyre).

The Pilot Sport Cup 2 is the current tyre in the Cup range. This is essentially a trackday tyre and doesn't handle standing water very well. It does, however, handle warm tarmac remarkably well.

Thanks. Maybe I was getting confused with the old PS2 as well

So basically, if I understand correctly, is the PS4S in rough terms a P Zero competitor and the Pilot Sport Cup 2 a competitor for P Zero Corsa ?

Yup.

The PSS has always received rave reviews by Aston owners who switched from Bridgerocks. The PS4S is a slight improvement to the PSS (hard to improve on a world class tire, after all). Even P Zero owners prefer the PSS after they have switched (but not as much as the BR owners).

I can't remember ever seeing a review of the PSS on this forum where it was panned (except maybe by one crazy guy a year back or so who just moaned on and on about Michelin...he was a 1st time poster I think).

The PSS wasn't great in the wet (dispite what everyone says), the PS4S fixes that - totally different class of wet grip.

The PS4S does have a slight drawback over the PSS, steering feel around the limit, but that's a natural trade off from the huge jump in comfort.

All my thoughts on the PSS vs PS4S subject - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F65rXOlS2f8 (warning, long and boring)

Not my experience in everyday driving, though I had the Geo done at the same time as the tyre change which may have contributed to the improvement. In any event substantially better than factory-fit Bridgestones!

Just because they were better than Bridgestones, doesn't mean they were the best in market (hint, everything is better than a Bridgestone in the wet!)

Conti and Goodyear always had the PSS beaten in the wet, go and put a set of PS4S on and you'll be amazed how much they move the game on

Thanks Jon, sadly, the mileage I drive, I'll be changing the car before I change the tyres! biggrin

Really.

"The Michelin ruled the dry testing, both in outright performance and subjective steering feel, but it struggled in the wet running, one of the slowest on test. Excellent if you prioritise dry running and steering feel."

Does anyone have any first hand experience on the difference between the PSS and the PS4S?
PS4S now finally available in Australia. Went to local tyre dealer today and was told that if it was his car he'd put the PSS on (DB9) in preference to the PS4S. PSS more suited to high performance and the (very) occasional track day. So came away confused with no tyres.

Another question relevant to this thread. I'm currently still on Bridgestones so whatever I go to next will be an improvement apparently. The GT8 is, I think, fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres as standard. Now my V8VS is not a GT8 (although it is more powerful biggrin) but importantly I do have winter wheels/tyres which are on for 4-6 months of the year. So when I next need to change my summer tyres would I be better off with PS4S or Cup 2 tyres? Any views from the GT8 owners or others who have tried Cup 2 and exactly what sizes are fitted to the GT8? Thanks.

My overly detailed and boring thoughts regarding PSS vs PS4S are linked in a youtube video about.

I'm setting up a PS4S vs Cup 2 test soon, so hopefully I'll have a good answer for you on that too smile

Help needed here too chaps (rather than start a new thread)...

My Vantage is fitted with Eagle F1's, however the owners guide says Bridgestone RE050, or, sport option, Pirelli P Zero Corsa...... I'm guessing though (based on this thread) I should be looking at Michelin's when the time comes...? Advice muchly welcomed smile

Aye, Michelin PS4S is what you want.
Disregard the manual - it's out of date wink

Thank you John. Found that video after I posted. Don't know how I missed it the first time around. I think it was because I wasn't comparing the PSS to the PS4S originally! Nice to put a face to a name. I have no affiliation, and found video useful, so link is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F65rXOlS2f8

No expert here at all but doesn't the AM9 suffix on the Bridgestone mean it has a stiffer Wall for Aston Martin cars, or is it a sales gimmick?

I know Mercedes-Benz do the same thing now, and perhaps also some other manufacturers as well.

Has anyone checked prices?
ie. Is an AM9 marked tyre more expensive, than the same tyre without the AM9 mark?

My guess is the AM9 tyre costs more, and perhaps some of that difference passes from Bridgestone to Aston Martin.
There again, what do I know.

OE tyres are usually more expensive due the extra work that goes into getting them approved.

I would imagine Aston Martin would certainly make changes, mostly in the area of noise.
