Garmin map update
Discussion
Does anyone know if I buy a map update SD direct from Garmin if it will work in a 2012 Vantage.
The dealer quoted me >£100 +vat. I've noticed on this forum that the Garmin NT maps should work and on the Garmin website are selling the City Navigator Europe NT -U.K. AND Ireland SD card for £34.99 (PART NUMBER: 010-D0037-00).
Wondered if this would work and if so is it just a question of swapping the SD card.
Many thanks for any replies.

I bought this in February, dropped in the SD card slot, selected the map in config settings, works fine.

I bought
Garmin City Navigator Europe NT (010-10680-50) - 2017 Maps - (010-10680-50) from Handtec for a few pence under £55 including delivery.
I have a 2012 Vantage where the unit sits in the boot behind the panel on the left side. The unit is a black box with a flap where there is a SD slot which was empty.
I plugged the card into the slot and selected the new maps using the settings and hey presto .....updated maps (don't think it updates the speed cameras but everything else works).
Cheers

In view of the new speeding fine guidelines coming into force on Monday (https://www.sentencingcouncil.org.uk/offences/item/speeding-revised-2017), an up-to-date speed camera database is an absolute MUST HAVE!!
For me WAZE is the ONLY way to go!!
Not saying I EVER break the speed limit but........ just saying!!

+1 for Waze, best free app out there right now. Bang up to date maps and camera database. And also shows temporary speed traps that other users have reported. A must have if you value your licenseFor me WAZE is the ONLY way to go!!

Garmin has been using HERE for its mapping system, since the days it was branded Navteq.
HERE was part of Nokia, but is now owned by a consortium of car companies, Volkswagen, BMW and Daimler.
There is a FREE version of the navigator called HERE We Go, which can be used on phones and tablets.
I have only just downloaded this latest version, but the previous version did more that simply warn about speed cameras.
It constantly knew the prevailing speed limit, and gave an audible warning of exceeding that limit at any time.
It also works off-line too if required, but obviously cannot then monitor traffic congestion.

So is an SD card the only way to update the Sat-Nav maps in my 2013MY V12, or is it just one of the ways ?
If possible I'd rather do a complete update of the system from DVD's etc, however i'm not sure if that's possible with the Garmin system. I know it is on the older Volvo one as I did it on my V8R.
Any ideas ?
UPDATE - Works have just confirmed that the SD is the only way to do it, so question answered.

The SD-Card isn't the only way of updating the maps. You could connect your PC to the unit and store the maps in the internal memory of the GVN54, overwriting the old ones, but that's for the Advanced Users :-)If possible I'd rather do a complete update of the system from DVD's etc, however i'm not sure if that's possible with the Garmin system. Indeed I could, but when it all goes to st and Works want about fifty million quid to fix it, I'll then rue not buying a £55 SD card and doing it the easy way EvoOlli said:
I didn't want to say that you shouldn't buy an SD-Card, because with the 55GBP you buy mainly the license to use the Maps. I only wanted to say that the SD-Card isn't the only way...so what Works said isn't fully correct.
I'm only messing with you, it's more that I can't be arsed to bugger about for fifty odd quid. That said, I checked today and I already have an SD card in the Nav Box........CG43-10E898-AG
Works said that the latest card is CG43-10E898-AH, so perhaps the maps I've got aren't that out of date anyway.
