I hear that CarPlay is coming to Vantage via a firmware update.
Hopefully not a rumour.
It is sad that these things matter but they do; it's what you look at most of the time when you are in the car and I hate the last gen Mercedes command system.
That would be a good thing. I'm finding the old Merc tech very clunky and with a pretty ugly interface. AMi ii in my V12VS is better. CarPlay would doubtless help clean things up. It's extraordinary in my view that the DBSS, a staggeringly lovely £250k beastie, uses the same dated system. Hopefully not a rumour.

So much better. Shame they seem entrenched - but if your No1 fan bois are kicking off and sales are down it may well be time to man up rather than continue to fight for that loss of face. Drove one - very competent - Matt Becker is well on the money at least...CSK1 said:

I can't see what the V12 would provide other than a different soundtrack, 'status' and a messed up weight distribution.
51/49 is not iwhat I'd call "a messed up weight distribution".Edited by Felonious on Sunday 25th August 08:40
This topic has been asleep for a month.
Opinions about the new Vantage by many existing AM owners, have been expressed here ad nauseam.
Unfortunately it seems to have become clear, that there is a reluctance by existing owners, to trade up to the new model.
Some time ago I started a topic about PHers, who had owned more than one Aston Martin. It was perhaps surprising, just how many of us have bought more than one Aston Martin. Some have even traded up six or seven times. Repeat custom must therefore be a very serious consideration for AML's business.
Andy Palmer has made it clear, that the more aggressive appearance of the new Vantage, was intended to attract 'new younger customers to the brand'.
Do you think these new buyers may be more transient customers, who might not show the same repeat buyer loyalty ?
I wondered about this aspect after meeting the owner of a new Vantage. He told me that he usually changed his car every eighteen months, often to a different brand. His previous car was another make sports car. Many of us are very enthusiastic about AML, but this gentleman did not seem particularly interested. It was simply just a car to enjoy driving, until the next one.

I'm getting the itch for a new Aston to add to my garage, but it's not any of the new gen. It'll be a Vanq S when I find the right one (and the cash). If I had a lot more money, I'd be looking for a 1-77, not any of the planned mid engine AMs. I want a GT with a big honking v12 up front. And an interior that wows you with its simplicity/beauty.
Just as many owners of NP cars stopped buying anything built after that era, I'm afraid that lots of 1st gen Gaydon owners may feel the same way about gen 2. Maybe gen 3 will get it right ( if AM makes t that far).

The new vantage design is growing on me, slowly - I think it would have to be a very carefully chosen colour scheme to suppress some of the design details.
I’ve now seen a couple in the metal that look pretty decent, but the DBSS is another level, to me a fantastic evolution of the original vanquish / DBS.
If the Vantage morphed into something similar, I’m sure lots of peoples reticence would vanish.

This is absolutely lovely. Fixes so many things wrong with the original design. I want one!

Ah yes, well done. They’ve managed to take a fresh new design and crudely paste on a pastiche of the old model. https://www.instagram.com/revenantautomotive

Looks absolutely ste.
Just seen this walkaround of the new Vantage AMR 7-speed manual. It looks great - as well as the interior fit of the gear lever there are nice enhancements to the exterior. Hope the link works for you... it’s only on FB (courtesy of AM Bristol who have the car available this weekend).

You are confusing us George, really, really.
You refer to it as a 59 edition. That would be to commemorate the overall win at Le Mans in 1959.
We see 59 embroidered on the seat backs.
However, you then refer to the Le Mans GT Pro class win in 2017.
"...with lime [green], the same colours as crossed the finish line at Le Mans ...and won the sports car title ..."
Those colours were used by the 2017 race cars, but what has that got to do with 1959?
I don't think the Le Mans winning car had lime green essence. Stripes were not fashionable in 1959 anyway.
Even the green is not the correct shade.
If there is to be a limited edition 59 commemorative model, the starting point surely ought to be the correct original colour, not just something already available for the existing model. Details matter to AM enthusiasts.

No idea - but I expect the base price (before options) is cheaper than that - maybe £135k? And that’s before dealer incentives. Extract - AML press release 1st May 2019;
Limited to 200-units, Vantage AMR is available in five designer specifications. 141 of those 200 will be available in either Sabiro Blue, Onyx Black, China Grey or White Stone. In contrast, the final 59 will be crafted in celebration of the 60th anniversary since Aston Martin’s triumphant 1959 24 Hours of Le Mans victory with DBR1. Named “Vantage 59”, this fixed specification features a Stirling Green and Lime exterior paint scheme and Dark Knight leather and alcantara interior, finished with a signature AMR lime stripe and stitch. Priced at £164,995 in the UK, €209,995 in Germany and $204,995 in the USA, this package is available on a first-come-first-serve basis to customers worldwide.
Vantage AMR is on sale now with a recommended retail price from £149,995 in the UK, €184,995 in Germany and $179,995 in the USA. Vantage will continue to feature a manual gearbox as an option from Q1 2020, following the sale of all 200 Vantage AMR models. Deliveries of Vantage AMR are scheduled to begin during the final quarter of 2019.
I think it will be interesting to see the feedback and comments from people who actually take delivery of one of the first manual cars. It will also be interesting to see the first one that comes up for sale. I suspect it will be marked up high, but whether it sells or not, we shall see. Not sure I like the shape and height of the gear lever itself, but the 59 AMR Manual looks much better than any version to date imho. As I’ve said before, as the car develops, gradual improvements will make it a more attractive proposition.
