More torque than V12VS (498 plays 450 odd) and will probably be as fast or faster as V12VS, depending which yardstick you are using (acceleration, top speed, lap times?)
MUCH more torque!!!! do you mean new vantage will have MUCH more torque than 498, or that 498 is MUCH more than 450 ? (it's actually 457 lb ft for V12VS, having just checked )
EDIT: I don't meant to insult you, but are we definitely talking lb ft and not Nm ?

Would it be sensible, from a manufacturing perspective, to use an identical engine as per DB11 V8?
Keep it simple.
That was the assumption I was working on, then presumably an 'S' as an option in a yr or two with say mid 500s hp, and then an AMR version (an equivalent to GT8 / GT12), with say 600+Keep it simple.
I've not been to the previews nor have I discussed with my dealer, so this is all purely idle speculation on my part

Just been chatting to "my man" at Gaydon.
Official launch will be at Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at end of November and that a roadster version will be at least 2 years down the line.
That’s very ambitious of Aston Martin. Official launch will be at Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at end of November and that a roadster version will be at least 2 years down the line.
But I guess they’ll manage to finish ahead of the Saubers at the very least

Wow, that sounds impressive. The V8 DB11 already has more torque than a similarly powered AMG GT - the AMG GTR with 577 bhp only has about 520 lb ft torque

Definitely lb ft.EDIT: I don't meant to insult you, but are we definitely talking lb ft and not Nm ?
perhaps, given that politically it's probably difficult for aston to beat merc with the headline hp figures, torque is their 'weapon'
it certainly would put to bed the idea that these are just amg engines with a different badge on that haven't genuinely been tuned to aston's requirements

Part of the agreement with AMG was that Aston weren't allowed to produce 4.0 litre engines with higher horsepower output than the AMG base engine (something which might have happened and had to be brought down a notch or two). One key thing to bear in mind here, is that later versions of the engine, that would form the 'S' variant, are an entirely different AMG base engine, it's not a case of just turning the wick up on the base engine used in the DB11 V8 and new Vantage.perhaps, given that politically it's probably difficult for aston to beat merc with the headline hp figures, torque is their 'weapon'

For that reason, S variants of any of the 4.0 platform are some way off, as there's some reverse engineering to do once AMG pass over the hardware (as daft as it sounds, when they provide you little in the way of design theory, it's tricky to reverse engineer and re-design it to your tastes).

It was not suggested that the next Vantage would be £180k.
That theoretical figure was purely mentioned, because AP comments about the attractions of following the Ferrari business model, and Rob's suggestion that very wealthy luxury goods customers, help to maintain production levels during economic recessions.
Not knowing the starting price of new Ferraris, I found a figure of £180k, but it has now been pointed out there is a £150k model.
Over here many V12S manuals sitting on lots, dealers offering deals, cars still not moving. Beautiful cars out there sitting for months and months, V8's for over a year.
It's just hard to believe AM is going to move the Vantage up market even higher than the Mercedes GT.
But then I think the upscale Condo's they are building in Miami is just about one of the silliest thing I've ever heard of.

Are they actually building them? Or are they adding styling touches to bespoke apartments?Cos I’m pretty sure it won’t say ‘hand constructed in the USA by Aston Martin’ on the opening plaque.
It has to be a marketing exercise only. They'd be mental to drift from their core business into property development I'm genuinely (both pleasantly and annoyingly) surprised that no images have leaked. Aston has done an outstanding job with keeping this car tightlipped, unlike the DB11. Its both good since when the DB11 leaked it showed the car (IMO) in not the best light. It sucks since I've been waiting so long for this car. Can't wait for late November.
Have you all seen the next Vanquish/DBS spy shots? It looks very promising.

You can lay odds that is NOT the next Vanquish.Have you all seen the next Vanquish/DBS spy shots? It looks very promising.

Well, some are saying it is going to be called the "DB11 S", some say its the AMR DB11 and others say it might be the Vanquish or DBS? Not sure what the naming strategy is going to be but visually it's on par with the size of the DB11 and it is much more aggressive. The distinctive styling of the head/taillights and the aero bits suggests that its separate model to the DB11 but only time will tell. Snb965 said:

I have noticed a design feature, which is perhaps copied from the Red Bull F1 car.
Side sills rising upwards towards the rear, giving the impression of having a raised rear floor.
Perhaps part of the new collaboration. _

Not sure if these were ever shared. They are renderings based on the leaked patent design.

I have not seen the new Vantage and this is purely guesswork but I reckon these are probably quite close .........

These renderings are not from the patent dawings, they are from someone how has seen the original car (clay model). Actually the quality of the rendering work is such that this might even have AML approval?
