Have to agree with that comment, the looks and interior are challenging to my eyes. At 115k I might be able to live with one, at 140k, no.

Design department; "Let's rework the front'.

Who said the new Vantage is not tasteful ?
Is lime essence now the 'must have' launch colour ?

Well in the case of that BMW it makes you squint your eyes, which means the front end is then slightly blurred. Much better.

We're going through a very unfortunate design fashion phase of bigger/flashier is better.
Let's have a bit more subtlety & elegance.

it wouldn't be the first car to be all grille and no lights .... there are many like it now from many vendors - the phase of jewelled lights seems to have passed.

What’s happening to values on these? There have been all sorts of dire predictions but prices seem to be around £90k here on PH.

My mate has just bought one for 89k with 9k miles. The part ex the dealer gave him on his jag svr was very very generous, more or less retail.

Interesting, what was the age of the car? I wonder what the trade price was, £80k?

Cannot be older than May 2018.
Often dealers try for around £10,000 margin.
Don't feel that is excessive though. Selling few cars and having huge overheads, is not an easy way to make profits.

I had the factory quad kit installed on my new Vantage. Problem is the pipe spacing on the left is correct while the right is not centered. Since the pipe lengths are the same we don’t see how this can be corrected. Any help is appreciated.

Hi.

I can only see a side view so not sure exactly what your issue is. I’m also not familiar with the AML 4-pipe exhaust for the new Vantage, but a couple of observations:
  1. If it was fitted by a dealer, surely they’ll fix it?
  2. All other models (that I’m aware of) have a ball-joint just before the last short section of tailpipe so that they can be correctly centered in the tailpipe trims. Are you sure your exhaust doesn’t have these too?

That’s weird. I couldn’t see two of your three pictures in the thread, but there they are as thumbnails when I quoted your post. Sadly I can only see a picture of the left; there isn’t an image of the right side to compare with.

I have a lifelong habit of keeping cars which I like, following the acquisition of a replacement.
The E30 at the top of the picture is one such car, even the same colour. 2 litre in-line six, a drivers car without any aids, not even power steering. A fun car, of the period.
Have never owned any subsequent BMW models, although liked the E46 design.

As for ever bigger front grilles - perhaps the less said the better.

It sounds like the kit's got 4 identical length tubes, and I'm not sure it should - the inner pair should be shorter (in regard to length before the bend, measured from the back box). Presumably the kit contained 4 new tubes, and not just 2 new ones? I only ask because I think with the quad setup, all 4 would be new as the outers will sit slightly further out than the original single tube setup.

Is it truly a "4-pipe system"? or is it just a tailpipe section on each side with four tailpipes that then Siamese into the standard Vantage dual pipes, silencers and catalysts?

This isn't the OEM quad exhaust, it's the Velocity AP one - but the layout is similar to the OEM version (couldn't find a photo of the OEM quad pipe setup, apologies).

The exhaust tips (unusually for a modern car) also stay a uniform diameter from the back box, so what you see is what you get (though some say they're too small). The majority of car makers these days put large exhaust tips on their cars just for show, because the actual pipe diameters are somewhat smaller. The truth is that bigger isn't always better for flow or sound, but in such image conscious times as these, cars are judged on the superficial visible girth of their exhausts...

The Velocity (DAE in the UK) tail pipes increase the diamater slightly:



I've driven the Vantage with both the old single pipe and quad pipe setup, and I'm glad the single pipes were discontinued, because the extra sound, and extra texture afforded by the quad setup makes a noticeable difference. Ultimately, secondary de-cats (like previous gen cars) make it come alive, and provide a healthy bump in power.
