Hi Guys,

as per title:

Brake pads on my 2009 AM DBS V12 (ceramics discs) are almost gone... Best replace with originals from AM or are there far better alternatives on the market?

Rarely a track day, basically fast street use.

Thanks,
F.

Also it seems that on the fronts you need to remove the caliper to replace the pads... Correct?

This is what I've found so far. Can anyone recommend?

No, same as any other caliper.

I thought with CCB that they recommend changing the discs if you need to change the pads? (as I type this it sounds illogical and im hoping I have it wrong confused)

Dobie

i understood it was a weight issue with CCM discs - you can re-use so long as you check their weight by removing the rotor , kiln or oven drying it , then weighing it - must meet a minimum weight

happy to be corrected though

Just the reverse (as recommended for other disc types).

On the fronts not sure how to remove by sliding the pads out backwards as both parts of the caliper are connected with some kind of "bridge" blocking the pads from simply sliding out...

Backside no problem.

Who's got some experience with this?

Oops! Memory is a fragile thing...

I did remove the calipers to change pads. Removal was easy (the bolts are low torque). I reused the bolts, but the service manual states they are to be replaced, so if you choose to swap the pads, make sure you get bolts beforehand.

A piston retraction tool is recommended since you have less leverage to push the pad/pistons in with the caliper dismounted.

Sorry about the neuron misfire.

It appears that the Aston, Corvette ZR1 and Ferrari 458 use the same Brembo discs and calipers. You may want to do a little research on ZR1 pads from AC Delco. Way less than Aston. If you can compare pad dimensional drawings, that might be an option. Next time I change pads (if I ever get to that point again), I'll certainly be looking at them as an alternative.

Have indeed read that ZR1 should be the same brake set up. They also suffer the same issues apparently...

Anyone experience with Pagid RSC2? Front Nr. 4941, rears Nr.4943...

Have got following quotes:

Pagid Fronts: 486,84€/set VAT excluded
Pagid Rears: 299,02€/set VAT excluded

OEM Aston Fronts: 1013,99€/set VAT excluded

Pad Wear Lead Set OEM Aston: € 42,20/each VAT excluded

Pagids are less then half the price, if they are equally good or better it's a no-brainer really...

Who's got them or had them on another car?

Regards,
F.

what are the known issues with the Carbon Ceramic discs/pads then?

Some of these issues have been reported (also on eg. Corvette ZR1):

- vibration
- sqeaking
- excessive wear
- damage after jet washing or using detergents to clean alloys
- ...

Many people tracking their cars with CC-brakes convert to regular steel items to reduce the cost of replacing the worn CC rotors. Replacement cost of 4 rators can be as high as 20.000,-€...

F.
