I was born in 89. When Hybrid Theory came out my whole year group was listening. IT sent me on a musical adventure that continues to this day. He was the first person I wanted to be like. Those first two albums were everything to me from 2000 to 2003. My first gig and first band t shirt. First songs I learnt on guitar, hell one of the reasons i got a guitar...

I'm gutted.

I'm 29 so their early albums were a big thing for me, Hybrid Theory is one of the best debut albums of all time IMO.

I saw them in France only a month ago and he looked so happy - what a shame frown

Genuinely a bit gutted, got Meteora on now, also a superb album

Really sad news. Chester was a great vocalist. Absolutely loved Hybrid Theory and Meteora.

Watched them earlier this month at Brixton Academy.

Live they were awesome - he gave it 100% on a Tuesday night, diving in the crowd, hanging around on stage when the lights went up - a great band.

Completely agree, he had such a great voice, and I loved those two albums. Such a shame.

RIP Chester.

Hybrid Theory is one of my favourite albums - and he was a big big part of what made Linkin Park.

Real shame.

Saddest news I've heard in a really long time. A huge chunk of my teenage years was spent listening to them, and I missed out on seeing them live in London earlier this month.

been a fan for a few years after years. one of favorites liked to sopranos is sessions off meteora

ok he doesn't sing, but for me the music and they band are 1, it always felt like the songs are a constant battle between the light and dark, much like my own struggles with depression. Great bloke and really made a difference to music even though a lot overlook it.

I've suffered with depression my whole life but I can't even begin to comprehend what a man with 6 children must be going through mentally that suicide was a better future than any other he could see for himself.

Tuly, agonisingly and devastatingly tragic.

For 'millenials' as we seem to be called, Linkin Park were a part of our upbringing and it was hard to be a teenager in the 00's without escaping them. RIP to a fantastic vocalist and the front man of a band which influenced many.

Be rude not to turn the volume up and have a listen.

Had tickets but couldn't make it, gutted to miss it at the time and now all the more so. Saw it whilst at Brixton Electric during another gig last night.

Such a massive shame. I'm a little older than the above but have loved them since the release of the first song. It was a good time for upcoming 'Nu-metal' bands when they first appeared. I've liked or followed a few musicians that have died (MJ, Prince etc) but I'm actually really sad that Chester has gone out that way, the world is a better place with him in it for sure. They're still knocking out top quality music even if wasn't as mad as the first two albums, such a great band.

After his death I've since found out a little more information about him via You Tube. It's really odd because you watch his live performances he's so energetic and happy, his interviews are full of confidence and he wasn't shy of telling of his inner feelings. He just always seemed a happy, humble, generous and honest person. Yet, despite the appearance he was a very tormented individual. Watching his interviews, whether it be one from a few years ago up to most recent times plus his lyrics, it just seems so obvious that he's going to kill himself and that's the frustrating thing. He had therapy, he had caring friends and family and yet it wasn't enough. Depression is a killer for sure.

This is a quick vid from when I seen LP a few years ago.

Personally, one of my favourite songs by Chester is not one the he'd done with LP. It's called 'System' from the soundtrack of Queen of the Dammed and was written by the Korn singer (as most of the songs are on that soundtrack). So one to check out if you've not heard it.

I'd say he's achieved Legend status smile

A lot say he looked happy but the ones that successfully kill themselves are these type. I understand he had abuse and other stuff as a kid. It's hard to talk or even get people to understand how you feel.
I watched my dad die in a horrible accident at 8 . People used to laugh at me when I told them, because they don't understand how these things affect you. A lot will never through the pain that leads to long term depression, so will always find it hard to understand.

A short burst of depression goes but long term pertinent deptession is literally a killer.

Yeah he was abused. Apparently his abuser had also been abused.

You can never be sure what people are going through.

A real shame about your Dad and what you went through. I can't even imagine what that's like.

Such a sad loss to music. Was listening to lots of Linkin Park on my recent camping trip to Switzerland, introducing my 5 years old twins to new music. Obviously the loss of his friend Chris Cornell was a last straw. It says he was god father to Chris's son. Listening again to Meteora, Hybrid Theory & Collision Course, also check out High Rise which was done with Stone Temple Pilots - amazing talent. It seems you need to be a tortured soul to write and sing such powerful songs.

One of my favourite videos of Chester, not many people have such a good voice that they can take an incredibly iconic and powerful song and make it their own.

Somehow it's 5 years (this week) already since he passed away. Probably the most talented vocalist of his generation imho. Man he could hold a note.

Recently found this, which really shows off his talents
