I don't get the hostility towards the V8 AMG derrived engine at all. I think it is one of the great engines on the market and the fact that it is used in the upcomming Vantage and the DB11 V8 i think is largely positive. The old lump is past its best as we all know, so in terms of alternatives available to AML clearly this choice is not bad at all (short of having to develop a whole new range of engines themselves).
Remember that the outgoing V12 was origianlly two Ford Mondeo V6s put together.

Don't start with the v12 business! And it isn't outgoing.Remember that the outgoing V12 was origianlly two Ford Mondeo V6s put together.
With regard to the AMG engine, now that is a lump. Nothing more than a German equivalent of a Detroit muscle car motor (and sounds like one). Definitely not a sound that belongs in an exotic or sophisticated car.
Aston would have been much better off had they been able to develop a deal with their old, benevolent parent to obtain a Voodoo NA for the Vantage. You can't go wrong with a 5.2L, 526 hp, 8200 rpm motor with a flat plane crank ala Ferrari. Go listen to one on YouTube; now that's a sound that would complement a new Vantage as opposed to the AMG house sound.

How do you know what it'll sound like?! If the DB11 V8 is any indication, it'll sound superb.

The v12, NA or turbo, is still the Aston v12 derived originally from the Duratec engine architecture, so it is not outgoing. The DB11 v8 sounds crap in comparison to the current Aston v8. How could it not since it is a crap sounding AMG v8 to begin with. How do you know what it'll sound like?! If the DB11 V8 is any indication, it'll sound superb.

We can all only dream of what would have been if Aston was in great financial health or indeed owned by a benevolent parent and btw if you are referring to the engine in the Ford GT then it is a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6 employing a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic with 647 hp.
