This site is superb - you can look about in Google Maps then move over the transparency and it's fully aligned with OS maps going back to the 19th century.

Well, I've found it interesting...

Great link, sent it to a few people. It's been fun having a look at the surrounding area and how relatively young my home village is in comparison to the surrounding towns.

Does anyone know what the source of the satellite/aerial imagery is? Because it's more recent than the google maps/earth aerial images where I'm looking.

I had a look at the landscape where my house is on the 1960s map. It was about 200 yards offshore in the sea with an island further out!!

My current other place was all fields, a bit like this place when I joined. smile

Needless to say, I am old enough to see my childhood homes well established on that map frown

The maps are much later than Google for my area (near Guildford, Surrey) - something like at least 3 years old. It's showing my old garage. For a while Google had my new garage with its old roof; they've now got the new roof (which was done a year later). But it's now smaller, so I know it's more than 6 months old.
