Hi everyone

I'm new to the forum and to Porsche. I've been told there is only small percentage of people who take factory collection and my OPC has no clue what the cost involved. I've searched the net and i found some old topics but i wish to ask if we have anyone who had a factory collection lately to help me with some questions please? My Opc said they won't have any idea as when the time comes they pass me to deal with Porsche to deal with instead of going through them. I have been to a few different OPC and i have a few varied prices from 1-2k to 3+k

What are the cost you paid?
How far in advance do they let you know? The wife needs at least a month of notice to get holiday as we're planning a Europe road trip.

Any good routes i should add in to plan my trip?

Many Thanks

mr pg

Hi,

We did a factory collection last December for a Macan GTS and it was amazing!!!

In short, you will only get fairly short notice and they are not that flexible on dates but it is worth the effort.

PM me if you want more detail.

Hi
Factory collection at Zuffenhausen £632 incl VAT, excl flights & hotel but incl factory tour & meal for two people.

Factory collection at Leipzig £797 incl VAT, again excl flights & hotel but incl factory tour (I think?), meal for two, plus track time in the type of vehicle you are collecting (one driver, me thinks - although that's not made clear)*.

I have a screen shot of the relevant page from the website but, being technologically moribund, I can't attach it here, I'm afraid - sorry!

  • Correction: Any other driver accompanying the purchaser can have a drive but the time slot is not extendable.

How in the Arse can an OPC not have any idea about Factory Collection? They've just sold you a brand new car and can't go the extra mile, or have the details to hand given the they're a MAIN DEALER!
Fecks sake.

Why does it cost extra to collect from factory ,saving Porsche the cost of delivering the car 100s of miles to the UK ?

Factory tour ,a meal in the restaurant and visiting the museum isn't costly .....confused

Hi
I think the price is because it's Porsche plus logistally your vehicle has to be transported to Leipzig for collection - of course that doesn't apply to Zuffenhausen collection though.

Irrespective of the cost, factory collection is a lovely thing to do. It's a unique chance to sample the Porsche experience. I've done it twice before & will again when collecting my next vehicle - a great way to experience unrestricted autobahn usage.

I went through the whole thing of why does it cost.

but honestly it is worth it!

The car also has to have german plates and insurance for 10 days within Europe which is included in the cost.

The bottom line is that this is a pain for the opc to manage and hence not advertised too well.

Its the best kept secret....... sssshhhhhh .

Every Porsche fan should do it at least once in their lifetime!

Thanks guys for the reply's. Much more helpful than all 3 OPC i've been to ask about. They just gave me a very vague idea about it.

I already know the closure of the factory and my OPC actually help me ask Porsche when does the collection resume, they had a reply from Porsche that it will be available again from start of 2018. I just rejected my build slot for November now so i can do this factory collection.

Was these prices given to you by Porsche ? I told my OPC i said there is people on Forums say the price is £6xx + flights and tickets and he said 'no way who told you that? it's about £3k ,are you sure you want the factory collection?'

I do want to collect the car in Leipzig, hopefully i can only just pay the £792 and sort out my own travel and hotel, a quick google search on older post , people said you cannot separate anything and must buy from Agent who organised the fly and hotel then charge you a fortune for some i can do.,

Hey man, Do they put you through an agent to sort it out? Any flexibility to organise your own flight and hotel instead or you had no choice?

Hi,
The prices I quoted are off the Porsche GB site (screen grabbed at the start of this month)! Annoyingly, although I took a the copy, the upload facility doesn't allow me to post it on here. As an indicator of price when I last did factory collection it included both flights, ferry to UK and hotel for two at around £1000 in 2013/4. Hence, I think the dealer who said it was £3000 was been disingenuous - I would go back & ask them to try harder.
A word of warning re: collection before Spring - you'll probably require winter tyre fitment to get you back to the UK. Insurance cover in Germany is predicated on winter tyre use during winter months: having an accident could severly compromise your insurance cover and legal status. There is loads of info on this on Rennlist on the subject.
Cheers

Re: Agent involvement, from the info I have, collection is dependant on you turning up at the factory gate at the appointed time & date, so I imagine its up to you to sort the travel to and from Leipzig. They even give examples of local hotels to choose from & you can get preferential rates on hire cars in the environs of the city.

Enjoy the trip

I have tried to PM you the screen shot I have of the prices of collection (the only way I think I can get it to you - unless someone on here can instruct me on how to upload pictures from my Mac onto Pistonheads, AArrgh!!) but to receive it you need to tick the box on your profile that allows PM-ing

You have to pay the dealer fee. They they will point you to a travel agent who you must use.

To be honest you can spend £1000 or £10000 depending on where you stay, how long and what you do when in Germany/ Europe.

Porsche uk won't let you leave without winter tyres but cars next to us has summers on and has no issue.

Feel free to email me, the opc's are clueless but don't let that put you off. Some are really helpful too luckily :-)

Hi Alan. We are collecting my wife's car from Leipzig at the beginning of August. We have known the date for about the lat 6 weeks, but it was only officially confirmed until today - less than 2 weeks before collection. The factory has just re-opened after the summer break so that is some of the cause of the delay in confirming, but apparently short-notice is very common.

Porsche price for the collection is £914 on my invoice (there are 3 of us on their trip) and that includes a factory tour, tour of the museum, 3-course lunch and around 40-60 minutes on the FIA approved track with an instructor in the same model of car. After all this, your car is unveiled and you have an official handover and explanation of all the cars features. You're given a tank of fuel, 9 days insurance and are let on your way to drive home as slow or fast as you wish. The car is registered on German 'zol' plates.

Once you arrive back in the UK, you return the car to the OPC who will give you a loan car while they clean, prep and register your vehicle for the UK roads. You then return to the dealer for a second unveil of the car and an official handover.

The price of £914 does NOT include travel or the return Chunnel crossing.

I have used the Porsche travel agent and they have put together a 'fair' package for us. Not cheap, but within 10% of internet prices for flights and hotels and they are a vey friendly and helpful service. This is not obligatory, but it does provide some cover against unforeseen events delaying your arrival.

I have heard great things about the collection and we are really excited to see the factory and hopefully enjoy a great experience.

Hi Shiverman,

Many thanks for taking your time to reply. I read it and it's got me very excited and looking forward to the trip. I Hope you enjoy your trip soon, I'm very jealous lol. Are you planning a europe trip or heading straight back to uk? Having driving across europe alot of times, i would spilt the trip in 2 or 3 days, Maximum 4-5hours drive each day, if you do that you can take it easy, spent a night somewhere different and then travel onwards. I once drove from Milan to Nice and i will never do that. it was a 11 hours drive so i limit my journey to 3-4 hours each day as once you include a few stops it will be about 5-6 hour journey.
