So I've had a couple of apple phones and after having a samsung s7edge for 11 months it's died and samsung are saying it's because I've dropped it and it's damaged internally but can't show me any evidence of this. So I'm looking at other makes which are big in other countries but not as big here. Problem I'm having is that it's a minefield so I thought I'd see if anyone had a good recommendation for one. Currently looking at Haewai but have gone through reviews on lots of phones.

I'm on Vodafone, would like 4g, minimum 3meg ram. Full Touch screen. I'm not to bothered about an amazing camera. I Use my phone a lot for Internet browsing and apps. So this has to be as smooth as possible. Budget up to £300 but if it's half the price and it ticks the right boxes then even better!

Just get a Samsung S8. By far the best Android phone on the planet today. An exquisite device.

I'm looking at the Moto G5 + at the moment which is £269 on Carphone warehouse, but also the Huawei P10 Lite which is £249 with the same. They both seem to be similar in specs, the Motorola might just have the better camera. Alternatively for about £400 extra I can go on contract with three on the same deal and get an Samsung S7. Not sure its worth the extra £140 though.

I'm just looking at the moto g5 plus now. I would go for another Samsung but its lasted 11 month. Its like new on the outside, no scratches or chips and they are saying its been damaged internally due to a drop so it voids the repair warranty, although they cant show me proof of any damage which is annoying. If they break that easily I don't want another.

If only phones were more robust! I've cracked most of my screens over the last 5 years, despite 'advances' in screen toughness.

Just looking at the motorolla. It doesn't have a built in magnometer so it has no compass built in. Never thought but a few of the apps I use required a direction off the phone.!

Pixel.

Why on earth anyone would use a Samsung with all its bloatware ruining the Android experience is beyond me.

Mind you, the Pixel is ridiculously priced too.

Wileyfox Swift 2x?

Currently £220 with screen protector and 1 year screen replacement guarantee

I bought one for£150 in the Amazon prime sale but I would say it is still fair value for money. 3gb RAM and decent quality screen.

Coming from an iPhone 5s I'm actually pretty impressed with what it offers for the money. It certainly doesn't feel like a budget phone. Only 32gb memory so in stuck a 64gb micro SD card in. So about£250 all in.

Wileyfox are a British company too if that's of interest...

i looked at the 2x and was very tempted. I tried the camera though and was pretty underwhelmed. Is the battery life any good?

I don't know what is acceptable these days having come from a 5s but I'm finding it can easily handle a day of moderate usage - browsing, Spotify, TuneIn and a few calls. It's showing 48% now and was fully charged this morning. I don't play demanding games or use you tube much when I'm out and about.

Agree about the poor camera but this is where I would prefer corners to be cut. It is adequate for the odd snap, for everything else I have my "proper" camera.

Screen is a decent size and sharp and that's more important for me.

For what I paid I find it remarkable value for money, and the current offer is decent value too.

I panic picked a Huawei Mate 9 when my Nexus 5X gave up the ghost. I have been blown away by it. Check the reviews, it's more than a solid phablet if you're into larger devices.

I have an Huawei P9 Lite that I bought earlier this year and am really impressed with it, even now. There's not too much extra crap installed, and the few apps and games that didn't interest me I was able to uninstall. It's quick and holds its charge relatively well and the camera is good. I mainly use it for internet, reading emails and WeChat and a full charge may last me two days.

Plus, it has fingerprint recognition!

I think I paid £250 for it but the P10 is out now so you may be able to pick it up cheaper.

Thanks but I'm trying to stay under £300. I could spend more but I'm trying to see if I can get a phone I'm happy with for a set price. I'm sick of wasting lots on premium brands only for them to break!

Mobile phone insurance. Comes with a lot of packaged bank accounts as standard (e.g. Nationwide)

The Huawei Honor 6X and Lenovo P2 are decent budget phones. Can get both from three and their phones come unlocked (you'll have to buy £10 worth of credit though).

If you aren't bothered by camera quality, go for one of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 phones. <£150.
