Idly browsing eBay for RX-7s (...as you do) and came across a very odd RX-7. It's a '99 Japanese model in which was imported to the U.K after two years and then seemingly dry stored but modified at the same time in just the most awful way (I feel sorry for the car). The car only went back on the road again last year, and as a result looks immaculate. Mods and all. I just wonder the chap who imported it would do , or pay to have that done to it only to never use it.

Only 5,000 miles on the click, it's like some weird snapshot of the early '00s modding scene. I don't think you'd find me parting with 17 large for something that looks like it fell out of Fast Car magazine.

I wonder how much it'd cost to put back to std?

What a sad fate for a great car. Hopefully someone will rescue it and get that st bodykit off.

Ironic, that would be worth more in original form I would imagine, certainly worth buying and putting back to standard.

Perhaps it was bought as a promotional car for a tuning / modifications company? The fact it has a Veilside kit (not cheap) and a full respray done properly makes me think that's a possibility. If I'm right, the company must have been doing alright to import a two year old RX7 and then butcher it.

Mot History has it as having done 8k. I suspect the clocks haven't been changed from km and dopey tester has just made it look like it's had a haircut.
Those wheels are utter, utter gash. Poor car, lambo doors too. Unnecessary! RX7's really do look better when they haven't been molested.
This one's up for £15k I love my JDM cars, but some people take it too far.

I don't mind the genuine veliside kit - very period correct. The wheels and lambo doors are just gash though.

it was not unknown in the whole max power era of the early 00s for people who modified their car ending up using it solely as a show car. to some they wouldn't drive it but bring it to car meets on a tow truck. maybe he was one too?

This. Swap the wheels for some 5 spoke Veilside/Andrew Racing wheels to go with the kit and I'd probably add the Veilside rear wing. Most of PH would hate it so that alone makes it worth it hehe

Not my cup of tea, but I must admit I was expecting much worse when I clicked the link!

The doors are a bit silly, but I prefer these alloys to many of the two-tone / diamond cut alloys on many new cars.

I don’t think that RX-7s have got into the “Got to have a low mileage classic” market yet.

RX-7 buyers don’t go “Oooh Errr, only 5000 miles”.

I could see someone who is not into FD3S but looking for an investment, buying it , returning it to original, and then storing it till everyone realises that these cars are real classics and most have been trashed already.

Me to very RWB

I also like the car the OP is talking about, the wheels & the doors (never liked those on any car) would be gone but as a starting point I don't see anything wrong with it.

If I had the money for both of them, I would have in my garage right now.
Change the silver one's doors to original and repaint red, stick on some vinyl and a big silver wing and a decal saying "Dude I almost had you" on the back biggrin
the 2nd one I would have just as is.

Probably a good thing I don't have funds for them

Same. I'd drive that. The missus would probably get the bus though.

Reinstate normal doors and fit a set of Rays and i'd buy that - it's awesome.

I think it is dodgy. Look at the amount of wear on the drivers seat bolster compared with passenger. As it's had a re trim they would supposedly be pretty much 0 bum mile seats.

Dont get involved I work on cars as a hobby and we had one in the family here and it was a good car but it would not go through the mot as no one could get the emissions down . In the end it was broken up
I hate this wankel engine and I understand why it was given this name !
