Well, quick update. Richard in service at Charles Hurst is doing his best for me liasing with AM and trying to sort the car for me and updating as we go. The service from him has been reassuring and gives me back the hope of attaining my dream car.
Mac you have your dream car.

You have simply suffered a small hiccup and when you have her back all will be well.

Cheers mate, but small hiccup it is not as I can't realistically see me getting car back before sometime in November. I bought it early August and drove it three times.

So sorry to read that. Very disappointing for you.
Are you able to share with us, what they are doing to the engine, which requires 6 weeks to fix?

Under these circumstances, I hope they have loaned you an Aston, because you did buy from a main dealer, with all the associated assurances that your car would be suitable for driving.

Well, as you suggest Jon, nothing takes 6 weeks to fix. Less than a week to put a new engine in.

OP why don't you just tell us what the problem is and what their proposed fix is? Why is it a mystery or a secret? I have experience of this type of dealing with AML so share your pain but don't understand why you only share half a story with us.

I don't understand why you don't just demand your money back. Can't imagine they can legally make you keep this car. Get an attorney.

This is totally nuts. While I do think it’s fair to let a dealer sort out a minor issue as soon as they realised that it was more serious they should have immediately offered a refund or replacement car. As mentioned above there is no issue that takes that long to resolve short of building a brand new car.

The fact that they indicate you won’t have it back until November without telling you exactly what is wrong is also very strange.

I would demand an immediate refund move on and find another dealer and another car.

As others have said, you only appear to be sharing half the story here, why is that ?

It takes a week tops to put a new engine in, so 6 weeks sounds very suspicious to me. I can't think of anything on a Gaydon car which would take that long, it's not like parts are being machined by hand.

If all is genuinely as you have stated, I would just be telling them to give me my money back. I'm not even sure I'd want a car back that was so badly broken it took over 2 months to fix it.

I can't see any AM dealer trying to dispute a full refund if you had your car a week or two before it apparently killed itself.

Again, if everything genuinely is as you've stated (and you didn't fill it up with diesel or something stupid), then I would contact AML themselves and ask them to resolve. We all know Dr AP is a decent chap, so I doubt he'd be impressed to hear of ANY repair taking two plus months.

If it's that serious, a quick Tweet to Dr Andy would get a pretty quick response I've no doubt.

Sorry guys, just trying to keep post alive whilst keeping my powder dry as it were until I see the end result. The experience thus far has not been what I'd expected and at times I really wish I hadn't bothered. I'd pushed my budget as far as I could for the newest, low mileage car and went for this one. A couple of times I really wanted to say keep the bloody thing and give me my hard earned back. I only got to drive it for couple of days! The representatives from 'Timeless' have been asking for more information and time's ticked on with me having no car ( I was told no replacement Aston Martin was available for me to use). A resolution may at last be in sight but I want to see it first and I have a few important unanswered questions that I will insist be answered.
I'm still without the car that I handed over my cash for. I've tried to be as patient as I can be it's been tough and it now looks as if a new engine will be fitted.
Thanks for interest and advice guys and I will keep you posted.

This is really quite shocking.

I'm quite cynical of the 'Timeless' programme - I've come to the conclusion that apart from the obvious consumables which might need changing, they simply put 'trade in' cars back on the forecourt and rely on the AM warranty for anything might go wrong within the first year. Its not good for business surely, and damaging to the Marque from a buyers perspective.

The standard of used cars I went to view at Aston Martin main dealers were really quite poor, one DB9 even had the Sat Nav button broken off, and coffee stains over the leather, a ticking V12 engine, and huge gaps in the service history !!!!

When Jaguar are selling an almost brand new car for the same money as an 8 year old Aston, it kind of puts it into perspective. AM are so concerned with selling new vehicles with all the finance packages attached, they really don't seem interested in the used car sales at all, which in its own way, takes away from the pre-owned buyers overall experience. It certainly nearly put me off buying one.

I'd ask for my money back and look for your dream elsewhere.....just my two pennies worth !

Very miserable - nothing worse than paying monthly for a car you can't see or drive. Only silver lining mate is if they get that back to you in a week with a brand new engine you can put this well and truly behind you and with a higher value car to boot...

Cheers, but I paid cash for the car, many years of saving and selling my TVR. So, as it stands they have my money and my car. (though it can't be driven) the engine has only just been ordered and looking at mid-October delivery for it so not next week. We had planned to go away in the car 9th to 17th September when I bought it, but that didn't happen.

I only visited one main dealer prior to buying mine and have to say the standard of the 'used' cars on the forecourt was impeccable, someone that knows their way around nice cars saw the one I bought in the dealer and questioned if it was a new car. scratchchin ....unfortunately that dealer has since closed. frown But the other dealer I have since visited seems to have the same approach to it's 'used' cars as the ones in the showroom all look 'like new'. rotate
Admittedly there were a few very small teething issues but nothing that took longer than a day to sort. I'm sceptical about the whole 'so many point check' Timeless, or whatever it gets called at any other manufacturers main dealers as most seem to amount to no more than kicking the tyres, and giving it a service/MOT/wash.
Most of this just seems to amount to 'does everything work'

Hope all gets sorted as soon as possible, whatever is up with it and you can then start to bond with it but it does sound like I'd be very close to giving it back and moving on if firm answers weren't forthcoming very soon, and I'd be expecting a VERY nice courtesy car in the meantime, I've not had a reason to tweet the gaffer but it does sound like his involvement could help, hope it all comes to a satisfactory outcome.
