Dear experts or enthusiastic bods,

I have a chip on the interior door handle of my 2005 DB9.

Does anyone know how to get hold of some of the silver touch up paint?

Poor quality photo attached.

Can't help with the paint code but I do know where you can get some un-chipped piano black ones if you fancy an upgrade ........

PM me if you're interested.

Thanks Pete,

But it's a light interior and the black wouldn't match very well.

Hi Sean - I've had help from a contact on this one:-

It’s a “Platinum” paint supplied by Sonneborn and Rieck (now called Fujichem Sonneborn), paint details as below:
1. Black Semi Mat Topcoat 94:364:3482/A
2. Platinum Chrome Base Coat 61:184:E1115
3. Clear Topcoat 90:1864 + 1865 Lacquer
4. Hardener 90CA01 Thinned with 09:276 thinner

A professional paint supplier for a repairers would be able to sort a match from that.

Good luck!

Hi Phil

That's great information.

Are we confident that the paint information you've got there is for the door handle area, and not for the door sill...

That's good to know! Thank you

Do you think they could be persuaded to provide the mixture for the door sill colours? I think a few people are interested... Including myself.

Not a big deal if not, it will allow me to go wild on a new colour choice!

Mako,

You star, I shall get looking, it's a shame Aston don't do an interior touch up kit.

So I've only just got round to getting this sorted.

My local paint suppliers say that they will need the door handle to match up the paint and that it will be a few weeks as they have a backlog. They say they will ignore the suppliers paint codes as they will match it themselves.

So it's door handle off time but I might wait until the winter.

Oh to have some interior touch up paint supplied by someone like Tony Hall or Astonbits.

Hi Sean,

interested to understand how your doing with this. I've got the similar issue, well actually mine is quite a bit worse with more chips. Are the door things have to remove?

I had thought about getting new ones but after careful consideration and studying of the Astonmartinbits.com website I decided it was too expensive to get a new one.

So if it's possible to get them re-finished cheaply then that would be great. I hope the pant people are as forthcoming here in Australia.

Hi Sean,

Yeah, I'm still working out how I'm going to do this. I'll let you know when I find out. Maybe it's leave the whole car there while they colour match.

I contacted Fujichem Sonneborn who said the minimum order of the platinum interior paint for a DB9 is 25 litres!

However, there is a post somewhere on AMOC about the correct match using a Toyota paint code. If anyone remembers the Toyota code perhaps they can post it here.

I found a different, readily available paint which can be used to good effect. It's Holts HGREYM04

I detailed the process in this thread.

I'd recommend removing the entire part which is chipped, rubbing down and re-spraying, it's a very easy job.

Thanks, looks like a job for the winter.

As long as you have somewhere warm to spray the primer and top coat - yes!

The Holts colour I've recommended is a remarkably good match to the original, my photos don't do the colour match justice. But it's not so perfect that you could use it as a touch up.
