Looking at the F Pace for the next family car.

The petrol is too expensive for us to consider realistically so it'll be the diesel.

So is the 2ltr 180 HP Diesel the V6 engine ?

Interested to hear of 'must have's' spec wise and things not to bother with.

Will definitely go for the Sport pack or whatever its called that enhances the trim. Cheers

That's the 4 pot

Yeah sport pack (or whatever increases the alloy size and adds the body kit) is essential I reckon, looks a different car without it

Tks for the reply.

The 180HP car good enough you think? Sounds like that's will be the car 80% of people go for

Put a quote into carwow and see in reality how much more the petrol really is. For the 4k retail difference it may seem expensive but it may be less in the real world and the performance is much better. Even though the diesel engines are modern and not impacted by the recent backlash i would not be confident that the residuals will not be impacted. Petrol all the way these days.

I did say my next car would be petrol given the long term outlook for diesel cars so I'll look into it .
I went straight on Carwow and got all I needed for 40k ( 3.5k saving) and will try the other websites before I buy .

PCP is the way forward for many and I get the reasons why but as we do circa 18k miles per year I don't think it'll work well for us .

Really not sure what to do now petrol vs diesel .
Diesel engine claims to be more efficient that the petrol and the petrol car more pricey

How times have changed the Petrol being cheaper then the oil burner.

I have been looking at the F Pace looks a nice car. The wife said the other day about getting something smaller, but I love my D4 which ain’t three years old till next April and far more toys then an F Pace Sport plus I would really miss that V6 and air suspension, the F Pace V6s are mega money

A small word of warning, for what it’s worth, regarding the bigger wheels:

I recently had an F Pace S 3.0D as a courtesy car for roughly 24 hours whilst my XJ was in for mending - it had the 22 inch (!) wheels which I presume are optional on the S, never looked into it.

The car itself was 6 weeks old and had 1,000 miles on it, but the ride was uncomfortably crashy and harsh, which I can only attribute to the wheels, that it rather ruined the sensation of driving the car.

The vehicle itself was otherwise fantastic in my opinion, although I didn’t get to play with everything, the 300hp diesel and 8spd ‘box a measure better than my 275hp 6spd, definitely the one I’d go for, assuming I could afford it (I can’t) with me doing a similar mileage to yourself.

Perhaps I’m trying to unfairly compare an XJ to an F-Pace, but I’d have surely assumed the brand new car would ride better, if not necessarily smoother, than my 6-year-old car with 19s...

All that said, the big wheels looks bloomin’ great!

It’s always the way 21s look the dogs but it’s at the expense of a crap ride. I would sooner go smaller and be comfortable

Glad my XF 5.0 V8 n/a had 19 inch wheels not the standard 20s.

Mrs once said that, but I fear she may have just been making me feel better.

I find it incredible that most people can travel in cars that feel like sledges being dragged along railway sleepers and think it's good... 'Oh but it's SPORTING sir' banghead

It's probably worse in something like the F-Pace.
When it comes to handling the worse thing you can do is to put the car of stilts. To get good handling you want the centre of gravity as low as possible. When they moved to high rise cars they needed to make the suspension much firmer to compensate. This also makes the ride worse. Old XJs had a centre of gravity barely above floor level and so could afford to use much more compliant suspension.

I had an '09 XF 3.0d that originally came with 19in wheels. I swapped them for OE Jaguar 20in Hydra wheels.

Couldn't tell the difference.

My current new model XF-S rides beautifully on 20in wheels. But then, I'm pretty sure Jaguar can make anything ride beautifully.

Have been looking to change my 4 yo 530d. Looked at the E Class Coupe. Nice interior, good ride but a little floaty.
Looked at the new 5 but met with dealer indifference so wandered round to Jag dealer to try the XF.

First time in a Jag since maybe the 80s. Very surprised by how good ride and handling were, especially as it was an R Sport on 20" wheels.

Anyway, have ordered a Portfolio 25T with 19".
