I need some too. I think it's easier to have them made, nothing very technical about them

I would try and have a couple of stainless steel straps made up. Fit and forget.

If anyone finds a fabricator to make these I would be interested in some. Maybe a group buy? A few sets might work out cheaper. Mine are still solid but look ugly. Some shiny stainless ones would look much better

That will rot the same as it is original equipment, looking at it, it can be made easy out of a strip of stainless steel. Dont waste money on buying it, make one which will be far superior.

Better still, get them galvanised.

If you have a new one for sample, I know a guy who could make them up no problem. ( I could too, but I'm too lazy lol )

i’m looking to do all three now , until i took the first strap off you don’t realise how bad it was , it’s had actually rotted through but that was not obvious when it was on the car

Here is a nice shot of my diff cover, and lurking in the background are two tank straps. I'd imagine anyone who's not had them replaced already will see the same rust fest.

an update , i went to the local metal fabricators , he sold me for 20£ a correct cut to width but not length sheet of 2mm aluminium , he said it will be strong it appears thicker than the original and he said easier to work with and won’t rust .. so i know what i’m doing this weekend , i as a back up ordered a mf original middle strap , he says he can make steel ones if any one wants them , but to make them i need to get all three off mine as a template first , i am going to double up the aluminium straps as once i’ve cut one i’m sure the other on top of it will be easy to make

Make sure with the aluminium straps that you have rubber between tank and strap and copper slip between strap and mounting on car.

If not you will have a chemical reaction between steel and aluminium, then the aluminium will crumble to bits.

i was thinking of a bit of plastic between joints acting as a washer , if the joints are ok then the aluminium straps will last for a long time

Yes just make sure the ali don't come into contact with the steel nuts/bolts or bodywork because it will corrode as said copper grease helps, you can buy an isolator to paint on that will help too. A good spray of waxoyl or similar will help

An update , drivers side strap was like paper , the middle one would be the hardest to make as it slides into a groove near the diff , i bought that one from the fish so that was ok but changed any way as was quite rusty , the left side like the right side being obsolete , it was only surface rust on the left side so sanded back and undersealed and put back on , i will now get a full set made up from what has come off incuding the left side as i made a template , in simple the knackered one was a lot worse than it looked so worth checking the straps , it passed the mot which surprised me , any one interested in a set if i can get them made up ?
