Here’s hoping Alonso’s success helps flog all of the cars in the dealers.

Well it can only help , having your brand all over F1 especially when Alonso says it’s a lovely car to drive !

Marketing will be all over that I hope!

At least he didn't say that it's got a lovely Mercedes engine. That would wind up the purists. biggrin

Interesting to see how GT sales have dropped off a cliff. As pointed out in SSO's commentary, GT's used to be Aston's bread and butter. How quickly times have changed!

Is this because no one wants a GT any more? That would be a convenient excuse, but it would appear there is still a market: Bentley (as direct a competitor as I can think of) continues to sell plenty of Conti GTs. Not as many copies as the Bentayga, granted, but still about a third of their sales, and another record year.

Ferrari also has no issues selling GTs. Order book for both the Roma and 812 is full.

A huge jump in the AML share price this morning.
The share buyers must have a picture in their minds.

Fernando Alonso finishes 3rd in the Bahrain F1 Grand Prix.
Long queues form outside Aston Martin dealers throughout the world.
Bags of cash are being handed over.
Sales reach record levels.
Aston Martin is saved.
Profitability is enormous, sufficient to clear the huge debt.
Aston Martin buys Ferrari.
Fernando Alonso becomes King of Spain.
Happy days.

Wake up, I might have been dreaming.
One step at a time.

20% up now! I’m well over break even now, oh gosh the temptation to sell is strong.

This could just be the beginning though!

Me too! If only I'd taken a bigger punt...

I wonder how big the Alonso effect could be if the team are up there this year. The underlying business doesn't make me want to hold on, but if Fred can keep this up it can't do any harm.

I said it was a solid close on Friday and the events over the weekend have certainly helped overall sentiment, even though the core road car business is still exactly the same. It was nice to see the positive press reports and social media posts on the back of the performance in Bahrain though, and as I have said before, that has to be a good thing. But sentiment is fickle. It can change very quickly and as we know, there is still a very long way to go for AML as a car manufacturer. 2023 is certainly shaping up to be another interesting year. Once again, fingers crossed for AML. As the saying goes, it’s the hope that kills you…….(football related, so not necessarily applicable here, but you get the idea!).

The move up in the AML SP was just mentioned on Ian King Live on Sky News. All we need now is for The Sun and a few London black cab drivers to join in! NP, may I be as bold as to suggest perhaps lob out half, and whichever way it moves after that you would probably be happy. It does feel like a slight overreaction to me today, but it may be the case that shorts are still being squeezed too. As we all know though, and as Adam pointed out in the AM Enthusiasts thread this morning, AML.L and AM F1 aren’t the same entities. The numbers published on Wednesday haven’t changed as a result of yesterdays results. But it’s still nice to see some positive news for a change.

Best Regards

I'm not an F1 aficionado but it's good to see success at last and a lot of good things being said about the 2023 F1 car. I'll eat my words if it boosts car sales. 3,000 DBX's may not match Andy Palmer's projections, but nothing does. I still think that, objectively, it is a good performance. There's an atmosphere of positivity around, which is great, but it's a thrills and spills ride.

I can't see Warren Buffett wading in here.

There is one hope of course.
Lawrence Stroll has told us that there are billions of F1 viewers (he adds it up for one race, then multiplies by the number of races in a season).

Perhaps if only 1% of Lawrence Stroll's one billion fans buys a new Aston Martin car, that would get production up to 1 million cars annually. (Is my arithmetic correct?)
They might need some help at Gaydon from a few robots, but those will need mechanical hands, so that Handbuilt in England can be continued.

You lost me with your football reference.
I like watching football club manager interviews. Can be very funny.
Also watch any David and Goliath cup matches, eg. Chelsea playing away, against an amateur side.
No grandstands and all the multi-millionaires big club staff, having to sit in the open on plastic garden chairs. - smile

Here is a football question.
Goalkeeper holding the ball and is about to kick it halfway along the pitch.
At the moment the goalkeeper throws the ball up, an opposition player sneakily kicks the ball aside and then it is easy for him to score a goal.
There are several examples on YouTube.
Does that count as a goal ?

Yes. I must now go out and buy a 4x4 SUV as the same logo is on the front of an F1 car.

I'm sure it can happen but don't get the logic myself.

Brand awareness. A sign of the age we live in, I guess.

Players aren't allowed to interfere with a keeper kicking from his hands.

But if a dozy keeper hasn't noticed an opposition player behind him, and rolls the ball out ready to kick it from the ground, then he's fair game to get mugged.
