How on earth did they charge that much labour for the battery

They had to disassemble and reinstall an after market stereo that was covering the battery compartment, apparently.

To the point where it needs that much labour would certainly raise my eyebrows the Vantage is small it can’t have needed that much faffing

If you look closely at the website you will see that I have a switch that powers the battery maintainer. Turn the power off and the digital voltmeter reads the battery voltage only. Switch on and the voltmeter reads the battery voltage WITH the added voltage from the battery maintainer. The car will go weeks without being started, so a quick glance of the digital voltmeter tells me the condition of the battery.
