Someone with a far more vivid imagination than me, completed the face likeness, by suggesting the Mercedes-Benz mouse thingy, looks like a tongue sticking out of a big mouth.

Love the pair of Elvis sun glasses though, very cool. Perhaps they could have made those removable, rather like the centre console pen (previous model).

ET hehe cool. Yes, the biggest let down is the interior, sort of German trying to look Japanese trying to look German. Only the British and Italians can do interiors. Buck the trend Aston, and forget the e-pod, computer look shyte. It will be completely classless in a short period of time. Bit Windows 8.

I think he's fair in his review, the front is not going to be to everyone's taste and the base price concerned me when I first heard it, 125k, with options pushing one to 150k and that's before they offer carbon ceramics and the sports exhaust. While it's fair to say the 911 GT3's price is a fairy tale because you cannot get one without buying a dozen Porsche's beforehand the AMG GTR is something you can order and will be a compelling competitor for buyers.
He was very diplomatic in his review. Sounds like it is a nice car, but not a great car. Subjective looks, sound meh, BIG jump in price over outgoing. I have a feeling walked away disappointed.
I quite understand that it doesn't fit into the fleet he already has - it is a competitor for the AMG GTR which he really loves.

However I think he is a bit unfair on the price. In my opinion it is more special and in spite of the controversial front end better looking both inside and out than the AMG's as well as a better size for UK roads. Perhaps more Porsche Turbo than GT3, and comparably priced, while again being more special. Also a similar price to a nice R8. The suspension is probably (we don't really know yet) better set up for UK roads than most of the German cars.

In my opinion the best value competitor is a launch edition DB11 V12 for around £130k.

confused
Car widths -
Mercedes-AMG GT (S): 1,939 mm
Aston Martin Vantage: 1,942 mm

Absurd dimensions either way.

These guys absolutely love the new Vantage: https://www.caradvice.com.au/637912/2018-aston-mar...

One of them says it's better than his 'current' model Porsche 911 and they both agree that it's a better car (especially the ride) than the AMG GTx which is heartening as I am considering either one but leaning towards the Aston. One of the reviewers owns a Vantage N400 and he prefers the steering in that but the other guy sings his praises about the new model in this area. Don't forget that this is the very FIRST iteration of the ENTRY model.

I think Aston have done extremely well. I'm in my 30's and I welcome a fresh start for the brand including the mighty AMG-sourced engine. HOWEVER I am yet to pass judgement on the front until I see it in person which should be in the next few weeks (I've always liked the classic front-end Aston styling).

Overall this car performance-wise - according to the vast majority of reviews - is sensational!

You are who this car was designed for, Alex.

Don't worry about the front. When you see the car, just compare the look of the grille area, to the £2 million Aston Martin Vulcan (limited edition of 24 cars).

I have no problem with Tim's reviews generally, bit over cheerful at times perhaps, and he's a big fan of Astons but the GT3 comparison just sticks in the craw. It's just ridiculous to compare the list price of the Porsche with the Vantage as that car is and has been totally unobtainable for most of us. Not for Schmee though of course!!! and the used price is well north of Vantage money. .

Marcus is quite a loyal young German gentleman.
Andy Palmer said Marcus uses public transport during the week, and wanted a 'weekend warrior' to drive.

There were a few contributions on this forum from Marcus, but have not seen anything recently.
Perhaps he chose a Porsche to use every day, instead of having to stand in the rain waiting for a bus. ~ wink

Hope you’ll get to see it soon. One of those cars photos never truly do justice to.

Just visited AM Bristol today and they had the launch color’s vivid yellow (official name?) example in. Already saw the new Vantage at Gaydon 2 months ago in sober colours (very classy) but have to admit that searing colour is a statement... in the most wonderful way! I think it’s a fantastic and brave choice. Definitely not for everybody, but neither was the previous gen’s orange which was the best (IMHO) and featured in the final promotional photos. And how many people bought it in orange???

Unfortunately I strayed from the new Vantage as AM Bristol also have 2 Vanquish Zagatos (one sold), GT8’s and a GT12. Oh... and so much more.

First world problems!

Salomodrin makes a case for a V12 version of the new Aston, I still have my doubts.

+1

I tried to persevere, but had to give up before the presenter sat in the car.

Perhaps the young wealthy new Vantage customers, whom AP talks about, enjoy the modern fashion for a shaky camera and a fraction of a second between scene changes.

I do enjoy though, the AMR team member Nicki Thiim' s videos. They are a little quirky, but he is a proven successful Aston Martin racing driver, and he is so enthusiastic about his employer's products, so I can forgive any filming shortcomings.

Aston owners are definitely not the target audience; he really liked it and would choose it over an AMG GTS, he owns an AMG GTR and would keep it over the Vantage, however he noted suspiciously V12 vent parts on the underside of the bonnet and is very keen to see that happen. Everyone agreed it sounded epic and pulled harder and lower in the rev-range than any Aston he'd driven before. Separately he's seen the new DBS and is super excited by it.

Read the Top Gear magazine review of the vantage. Put up against the mac, gtr, 911 the vantage scored 8 whereas the rest scored 9. Some interesting observations.

Just read the EVO review, Vantage came 4th behind R8, 540, 911 C4 GTS.

The Vantage review said it was great up to 8/10s, but then lost control after due to its weight, but the others ran better at the limit. Thing is, other than journo's, who actually drives above 8/10's, or even that on today's roads. Feeling special at normal speeds is just as important I would say.

Oh, and a Porsche 911 won again.

Interestingly they also reviewed the DB11 AMR, which was great at everything, but still got a negative comment in the last line.... They even still go on about the V12's Ford heritage - for goodness sake! Never seem to mention the Beetle engine in the 911 though

Sums up why I stopped buying the damn thing ages ago.
