Many years ago, as I'm sure many will remember, Motor Sport Magazine ran an editorial section entitled "The Perfect Pair"

My father's business partner, a really nice, quiet, intelligent man, used to provide me with said copy whilst baby-sitting for his kids , long, long ago when the TV took ages to warm up and disappeared into a black speck on the screen after midnight.

The same Gent who progressed from a 1300GT Escort (he took me to my first race at Croft) through to a BMW 2002, Capri 3.0GXL, Granada 3.0 (bad move) Jag XJ and onto a BMW 3.0l

Today I was talking to my lad who is 25ys old and I was talking about my XJR.

"I was musing about getting an XF, maybe an XJ SWB, maybe you'd like the XJR?

"No...sorry Dad..it's not really my bag"....WTF!!!!! what!!!...Shock!!!...Defibrillator at the ready...What????...Lol!"..Oh how times change....

Late into the evening recently I had been watching Chris Harris eulogise about the Singer 911 and I came to realise that this would be my "Perfect Pair"

Ok- not quite a pair but close..

Ignoring my daily drive, I have a '66 Elan DHC, a Jag XJR and a Rolls Shadow 2 , the Singer would fit nicely in there (if I could afford one) and thus contentment, calmness and equilibrium would reign.

Uninhibited, perhaps unencumbered power, steering input and agility (ok not the Rolls), but well being, happiness, sobriety and contentment. I really, really like the Singer, I totally get the concept and delivery.

Years ago I went through a really painful divorce and I used to see another guy drop his kids off in the local village in a LHD 993, I mused and built pictures and stories in my head and used to admire how he could hang onto this last vestibule of identity that manifested itself in a Porsche 993- all of course made up in my head smile

The Singer....

I wouldn't want to trade my Elan, nor my Jag or Rolls, each of them are representative of different emotions, periodicity, to be trashed as such, rather the Singer would complement, acknowledge engineering excellence in whatever facet it delivered, tacticlity, power, handling, fluidity of delivery in purpose....

Yes..the Singer would be my "Perfect Pair"

What would yours be?

"Answers on a Postcard"..or rather PH smile

Pair means two of.......... so not understanding the logic of the 'perfect pair' here if adding a hypothetical Singer to your current fleet of 3...???

Surely a perfect pair would have to be the Singer and one of the other 3......???

The new one was bought to make the "joke" complete. I got fed up with people posting stuff about XK150s when they meant X150 XK biggrin

Some lovely "pairing" folks!

Jamieandthemagic - that's just being greedy; can't call yourself a true petrol head without having owned an Alfa can you?

Have you ever been in a 6.9,Dapster? - do you remember the 6.9 Silver Trashcan story that Car magazine ran on an American road-trip, Nice pair!

Phumy- some grunt there! cool

Yachtbroker - Fulvia gets my vote -v. pretty

A8hex, very nice...but then I'm biased lol!
