Hi All

As you are all most knowledgeable about many things, I ask this simple question:

We are driving up to Edinburgh on Friday, staying until Sunday and moving on towards Glencoe via Inverness, Loch Ness, etc. Then Back home on the
Monday.

Does anyone have a scenic route, must see places, etc.

Your expert opinions are always much valued.

Which direction are you coming from? A1? M6? Don't miss out on the borders roads, well worth getting off the motorway near the border and coming cross country to Edinburgh.

Thanks, We will be driving up from Leicestershire. We are near both the M1 and can get to the M6 Toll.

Don’t go up the A9. Average speed cameras all the way. Google Henry Catchpole and the old military road. Epic road and it will finish near Grantown on Spey which is on your way to Inverness.

Probably best coming off the M74 at junction 15 then driving cross country on the A708 Moffat-St Mary's Loch-Selkirk-Edinburgh.
One of the best driving roads in the country.

Our favourite road in Scotland when we did the NC500 a couple of years ago in the DBS.

A few pictures from the Old Military Road.

A great little place for a lunch stop.

Route we took.

Old Military Road is definitely worth driving.. these pics were from Blairgowrie to Braemar section.

If you can, go right through and up to Tomintoul aswell then you can head to Inverness.

Come off at J15 but go up the A701. It is a far far better road for cars, with good long straights and sweeping bends. It also takes you straight to Edinburgh. A great family run cafe/bistro in Broughton on the main road would be a nice stop for lunch if your timing takes you there.

The A708 gets very twisty and tight, much better on a bike, if you get stuck behind anything passing opportunities are scarce. Scenic-wise it is much better coming the other way so you could always put it into your return leg.

Echo the military road, superb, done it both ways a number of times and the only problem you will have is the will to pull over and stop to take pictures of the scenery as the road is so good.

Thanks guys for all the information. Really useful and will be following the A701 and the Military road. See if I can get some decent drone footage.

If you have time on the way up do A66 off at Barnard Castle then find the B6277 north west to Alston. It’s a fabulous first bit of proper scenery and driving for us on our way up through Scotland.

Nein,
From Glasgow and back, how many days? and did you book accommodation ahead?

Thinking of doing it in April,

Cheers

Hi Guys. Took the advice and drove the Old Military Road. What a great day. Only managed a few drone pics due to the high winds.
