is SatNav really that essential? I know everyone says it is - but is it? how many people actually use it and demand it on a used car?? Be interested in people's thoughts on this as going through the same process at the mo and it seems like a lot of money for something that will get very little use...

I use my SatNav all the time (but it is a portable Tom Tom Go and can be moved between cars). All the dealers will say it is becoming an essential on high end cars (a bit like air-con used to be) especially for business users and the dealers will have a major influence on the used market in the future.

A friend of mine did point out that while my Tom Tom looked okay on the windscreen of my wife's Scenic....it would do nothing to enhance the existing stylish looks of an AMV8!

It is an expensive option in pounds, but at 2% of the total cost it was not an option I was prepared to take a chance with.

I'm definately going to spec SatNav on mine. I agree it is an accepted "standard" now on high end cars so good for re-sale BUT for me I want to take my car round Europe as well as all over the UK so it's a very needed option for me.

Is the navi in the AMV8 a single-din flip out jobbie or is it a proper mounted in-dash screen. I was just thinking - the Pioneer AVIC-X1R which I have in the fq400:

Only costs 1100 if you get it from the right place, and is without a doubt the best navi system available at the moment with a touchscreen and live traffic rerouting. If there's a way of sticking that into the AMV8 then it would make much more sense than spending almost 2k on a system which doesn't have those functions, just because it's flush mounted in a dashboard.

In my DB7VV however I've got the "alpine premium sound system" which is monumentally crap! And though that's a single-din headunit, it would be impossible to fit the X1 since the gearstick is in the way of the flip out monitor! Do you know if this will be the same on the AMV8? Where is the headunit mounted - bottom or top of dash?

The AMV8 sat-nav is in the same location as in the DB9 (above the two air vents on the centre console. It's hidden until activated when it glides into view).

Yeah sorry gotta learn to read the whole thread before I post

From that photo it looks like fitting an aftermarket head-unit is not an option since the dash doesn't have a din-slot but is instead a custom one.

Can someone with a DB9 confirm this?

I have just got back from the factory, I'll post my spec later when Ive chilled for a bit.

The factory tour was brilliant, the staff that looked after us were very knowledgeable, and patient with my mad colour combo ideas.

The sat nav is as the DB9, not aftermarket head unit changes will be possible either.

I couldnt get much information of the stereo upgrade im sorry to say, so I still have a ? by it.

Hi rich1231 and beej,

I think I have been quite 'cowardly' with my choice (and I have had one eye on the eventual resale).

After looking at all the colour combinations (on DB9's) around the factory and nearly got brave.....but in the end I really liked the one in the atrium that we were able to look around. Plus I didn't have to try to imagine what it would look like....because I could see one!

So mine is Mercury Silver, with Phantom Grey leather (which many people thought was black anyway!) and black carpets. The headlining is Tailors Grey as this lightens the interior (which could feel quite dark without).

I went for the satnav (as I think it is essential for resale.....despite the fact that my Tom Tom cost £400 and works really well.....although could look somewhat out of place). I didn't go for the GSM as I never used it on my 996 and my bluetooth works really well by itself).

I added a few other 'little' additions...heated seats etc, but chose not to upgrade the sound. The information on this wasn't good enough to spend £1000 and the standard unit will sound fine for me most of the time....especially for 5 Live! Plus I like the sound of the engine!!

Hope this helps

AoN

PS I see what you mean on the early cars.....however I still got the impression that the first ones would all come at the same time (pre-specced or individually specced).

Similar to yours AON, apart from the Leather colours Ive gone for Kestrel seats ain inserts and Black everywhere else.

With one eye on the resale value, I had a quiet word with a high end trader who advised (for what its worth) that SatNav, full leather and big wheels are absolute essentials. His exact words were "it will cost you more not to fit them".

He also cautioned against adventurous colour combos but then thats plain common sense.

So, anyone want to buy a Lime Green V8 with orange leather?

Yep with yellow stitching, though to be honest this I'm only speccing for resale lark is a bit stupid. Im buying a car for me to enjoy, not the poor bugger that has it after, else all we would have is silver paint and black leather.

You could be right rich1231, but to be honest I think the car (and AM's in general) suits the more conservative colours. I have had time to think and I'm really pleased with my choice of colours and extras. Yours sounds good too.

I was joking actually

Mercury Silver
Obsidian Black Upper leather with Black Coarse stitching (bear with me)
Kestrel Tan Lower Leather with Coarse black stitching

Kestrel Seats with black coarse stitching.
Obsidian Carpet and taylors grey lining.

Almost all boxes ticked apart from phone which I will see in action at the dealer at the weekend and confirm.

Sounds great. I really liked Meteorite, but settled on Mercury after much deliberation.

Looks like there aren't going to be many red ones about!
