But seriously, why have ugly, heavy lumps of cast iron when you can have CCM?
Well there are several reasons why you might prefer iron but I think the main one, in the context of the DBX, is that they need to be cared for in a way that owners of an SUV might not do when compared to enthusiast owners of a sports car / supercar. I suspect more SUV owners get their car washed by people other than themselves who often use strong acidic wheel cleaner. Do this often enough to a car with CCMs and you'll end up with a huge bill sooner rather than later.

Wise words Pete. I’m going to potentially be the market for a used one 2-3 years down the line (if they're good) and I would much rather they had steel brakes where I knew mis-treatment of them by the original owner wasn’t potentially hugely costly

Also CCM is probably not great on a car that a designed to go through water, hence why RR don't use them on the SVR.

I don't like dirty, dusty wheels. Hence CCM.
That is a fair point which I hadn't considered. However it' still not enough for me to spank £10k on, there are other things I'd sooner spend it on. Perhaps if I was fabulously wealthy. The Aston OEM pads are terrible for brake dust, but some quality pads can greatly reduce the problem for 1% of the cost of CCM.

I can't see many DBXs being driven through more than 2cm of water.

I think you are entirely typical in the sense you want a nice daily driver but with Aston Martin looks and performance.

Indeed although I’m quite happy using my V12S daily. Other than maybe half a dozen “ Defender “ days I’ve done so for the past 4 years.

Where is the gearbox in DBX?

Remember, Nissan GT-R is front-mid engine, transaxle and 4WD. Given the VH and 2nd Century (so far) preference for the transaxle it's a reasonable question.

Anyone better informed than average have any knowledge?

But that isn’t DBX. If you want a nice daily driver with Aston Martin looks and performance, then why not buy a Vantage?

If the word 'looks' is the crucial one, then we must remember that there is a group of motorists, who presumably think the basic SUV shape is beautiful. I wonder if that same group think a Vantage is unattractive ?

Do you think SUV customers are being manipulated to buy ever bigger vehicles ? I see the latest Audi SUV (size Q7 wide fitting) is now described by Audi as 'Mid-sized Luxury'. For goodness sake, it weighs two and a half tons !

When they get to their Q15 model, will that be considered 'Large-sized Luxury' ? Probably about four tons by then. - wink

Imagine driving a Q1 these days. Oh dear. Now having so many bigger brothers, it has become the losers model.

My grille is bigger than yours. - ranting -

To be fair the canyonero seemed to sell very well as an suv but was early to market and even had a F model for females, so with this in mind I can see Aston selling 000’s of models. If they do do an F series range make sure they only sell it to the ladies as Homer found it to be a status problem driving the ladies version .

If the target audience is Bentley Bentayga owners then how a car looks is clearly not a consideration.

hehe

As long as 7,000 people buy one DBX every year, our sports cars will continue.

Hope it looks better without the camo since it doesn't have a wow factor in my view. Maybe the inside is special?

A lot of what you see on the camo cars are not actual bodywork. Its all soft mouldings including the ridges below the windows on the doors and the line from the wing mirrors to the headlights.

Afraid to say that I agree with you and I've felt that for a while now.
I fear a similar polarisation of opinion similar to that of the new Vantage is on the cards, so we can look forward to another 500 posts on the subject, oh dear me.
I agree that the competition , Bentley, Rolls and Lambo are not aesthetically pleasing either but they sell so I hope DBX sells well but not for me.
I consider the Range Rover still sets the high level in its class.
I've always hoped that the very graceful , special edition , station wagons might have been produced
In 4WD form as part of the range but AM must feel that there's not the market for them.
I'm posting the Zagato only to illustrate the sort of thing I mean.
Now for circa £200K that does have the wow factor ( and I know in Zagato form it's a lot more money ) .

This is my idea of a good looking SUV; much better than almost everything out there except for other RR models. The OH (and myself) really like our Velar. Can't imagine needing or wanting anything else. It would have to be a real looker, number one.
